Although never a worthy Xmas gift, marbles were great. I had quite an arsenal of chinas, oileys, glamogs, snakeys, various two hitters one hitters etc. Played all sorts of types, on the ground, on stinking drain covers but always for KEEPS never for lends (? â sounded like lens). My favourite though, over all the beautiful marbles I had, was the uncompromising boly â big bastards - sometimes worth six hits â the panzer of the marble world. Remember famously taking a six hitter off a local twat, with a mere one hitter. Hit and run was the tactic.
Sure I got marbles Christmas as a stocking filler. I remember having the odd boly. I alternated playing marbles with the boys and double ball.
