Yeah, don't know much about them but they're track was used by Brian Walden and the Weekend World TV programme as their opening and closing tune (I think) many moons ago. Oh well, have to go now, there's a pint with my name on it waiting for me! Maybe see you later mate
I just love this song - You'd never have expected some-thing like this from The Who! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f1kgqJuDUv4
In the early days they often did the odd blues based song. Nigh on impossible for me to select 10 just rock groups . I have worshipped so many from the Beatles, Stones, Who, Free, Yes, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Steely Dan, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd and Allman Bros through to the odd ones of today.
I currently enjoy listening to Adele, Elbow & Rumer amongst others. Saw Elbow live at Portsmouth Guildhall a few years ago - absolutely brilliant. What an incredible baritone voice Guy Garvey has. My tastes range from the usual suspects such as The Beatles/Genesis/Barclay James Harvest/Pink Floyd/Gerry Rafferty/Simon & Garfunkel, even Neil Diamond ! Love Enigma/Damian Rice/Rufus Wainwright, etc. Enjoy a bit of Gilbert & Sullivan opera - completely diverse tastes in music ! Not so much into jazz, but enjoy classical music such as Delibes - 'The Flower Duet' from 'Lakme', Pachelbel, Schubert, etc.
Is it true that Not606 is the Radio 4 of footy message boards? For those of you who are married, and in particular if you have never seen Tim Minchin, you might enjoy this; http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gaid72fqzNE&feature=youtube_gdata_player
Saw Tim Minchin on a TV chat show the other week - very entertaining Channon, with a good turn in humour for an Aussie !
Ha! Radio 4. Not a bad analogy CF. The Pompey board is becoming more like Readers Digest magazine, by the day.
This is my first vist to your board and I thought you would all appreciate my excellent taste in music. As I live in SOUTHAMPTON I like to go to the TURNER Sims Concert Hall to listen to music especially if there is anything by RODRIGUEZ. I particularly like to listen to anything by BLYTH Power or STEELEye span and even PEACHes and Cream. Rupert HOLMES Greatest Hits is a must listen too recording and I always enjoy listening to Jim MCCALLIOG of Chicago Sting and OSGOOD Slaughterâs LP Take this and Eat it all of You is a firm favourite of mine. And who could not enjoy Pachabelâs CHANNON or another favourite recording of mine Song of Delight by Maeve GILCHRIST as is The Lovely Years by FISHER. Last but not least and not strictly music unless you are a bird lover like me is The Field Guide to Bird Song by STOKES. Enjoy!
Very good for a first visit St Godders. An interesting choice in music I must say, from the mid 1970's I would guess. Surprisingly, nothing by McMenemy, Lake & Palmer ?
I went to school with Bobby Stokes, in the same class as him, and I'll tell you what he was a brilliant all round sportsman - from cricket to athletics - a really nice lad. His elder brother Dave played for Fareham Town, and was also a very good footballer.
Thought it was time to revive this thread. Anyone seen the new Tropicana ad?!! Novos Baianos doing what Brazilians do,second best only to futebol. Besta é Tu. How good is this, sorry the film is so poor. The little boy is about 42 now!
Seeing as I don't really know any Jazz, I'm going to include rock and pop as seperate: Pop: B*Witched Marina the Diamonds Florence + The Machine Amy MacDonald KT Tunstall Ellie Goulding Glee Cast OMD Owl City The Pet Shop Boys Rock The Killers Coldplay R.E.M. The Beatles ELO Sigur Ros Robbie Williams The Lightning Seeds Blackmore's Night Blink-182 Classical Debussy Enya Pachelbel Scala (this group is brilliant, look them up. They're a Belgian teenage girls choir that do classical choral covers of pop and rock songs. Their version of U2's With or Without You is brilliant) Howard Shore Harry Gregson-Williams Hans Zimmer Trevor Jones The last four are famous for soundtracks but still, very awesome.
If I to even start to list the amount of bands I have seen live then I would need to start a whole thread to myself - some 300 bands at the last count. My musical tastes are somewhat varied but I always seem to compare anything more modern to my favourite bands and I seem to have lost touch with the music scene over the last few years. As my dad was a DJ in the Havant area in the 70's, and myself being an 80's child - a lot of my musical influences come from my parents - as it should do. A concise list of bands that I will listen to for the rest of my life are as follows: Muse, Foo Fighters, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Led Zepplin, Nirvana, Pink Floyd, Eagles, Fleetwood Mac, System of a Down, Metallica, Pixies, Pearl jam, Rage Against the Machine, Oasis, Blur, Pulp. There are HUNDREDS of others to add to this list - but I can't be bothered! Out of interest - what are the best recent albums people have listened to and enjoyed? Currently, and its my wifes fault (honest), the new Lady GaGa album is being played on repeat on the iPod dock. I must admit it is a VERY good album and well worth a listen. If you can get your head around her complete insanity, she is an exceptional song writer and she knows how to write a song that will be stuck in your head!
Hate to say it but, I can't abide the woman! But that is what makes music one man's meat etc; Only two on my original pop/rock list are still making music I think, which says a lot, for what I think, of the current trends. When artists rely on making songs, that involve huge samples of older, better tunes, it seems apparant that we need another punk rock moment, to thin out the likes of J Lo, Beyonce and, most of all, the nemesis of creative, independent of big business, songwriting bands, that is Simon Cowell. For me, that guy stands for everything that's wrong, in the music business today.
