Murray's form seems to be peaking just in time for the start of the US Open. Now in the final of the Cincinati Masters, could he be about to claim his first gran slam??!
Very annoying response but unfortunately typical. 1. Murray can only play what's in front of him, the same applies to Nadal, Federer etc. yet you wouldn't have responded in this way had one of these players won. 2. All players carry injuries most of the time, I've no doubt Murray was carrying some small injury as well an Djokovic. 3. Murray had already won the 1st set and was 2 breaks up in the 2nd when Djokovic decided to end the match. You can take nothing away from Andy Murray, he was the rightful winner and will go into the US Open in a good frame of mind which is always a good start. It's about time Murray won a slam and now is a good time to do it, in a couple of years from now be may be past his best.
It would be great to see him carry this current form into the US Open...He has the ability, all he needs is the belief...
By then Federer will be gone though, and I think Nadal's game will deteriorate faster than Djokovic's and Murray's because of his reliance on his power, strength and fitness. He might not be as good in two years time but his task will be easier. He has to break his duck soon though because the longer it goes the harder it gets. He's got a great chance again, but he has repeatedly for last few years and it's never quite happened for him. As much as I hate to admit it, I agree with RAWhite. He needs the belief, I think he has the technical ability, and I think he has the fight as well now, but his confidence is fragile in the latter stages of slams, as soon as his opponent gets on top of him he finds it hard to wrest control back. I'll have my fingers crossed for him, but with every slam that passes my faith in him diminishes a little. Come on Andy!!
I think i'm correct in saying The US Open is Murrays favourite "slam" and and is the one most commentators think he has the best chance of winning
We've seen this before. He'll win plenty in the American Hard Court season (and in previous years against the top players) and then he'll fall short when it really matters, in a semi final/final against a Federer, Nadal, Djokovic etc.
