Glad you enjoy boxing Monty . I haven't followed for a long time . Not since Ali . I don't follow UFC at all , but a massive amount of people do .
Greatest boxer of all time probably not. Its very difficult to look past SRR both by his record and his skill set. Known to be the most complete boxer by most officianados both past and present. Best heavyweight of all time probably. Ali was a 3 time champion and the first to do that. He had an incredible chin Foreman will attest to that and probably one of the toughest men on the planet fighting on with a broken jaw is more than proof of that. In an era that provide us with heavyweights that would make up 5 of the top 10 heavyweights of all time in anyones list. There was only one belt so you had to fight the best to get. He did that 3 times says it all for me.
I did try following UFC for a bit, but it sort of slipped away from mainstream media. I think Connor McGregor highlights UFC's problem in that it's very 'anti-superstar'. The owners seem scared of fighters becoming too popular/powerful which really holds the sport back. I always loved boxing, but don't get to see too much of it lately. Boxing's problem is the opposite. Control of the sport is so fragmented that the fights people want to see often take too long to arrange or don't happen at all, Pacqiao vs Mayweather as an example.
Some great names there. Always thought it was a shame Toney, Hopkins and Jones never fought eachother more often, but that was Boxings problem back then.
Like I say , I was a boxing fan till Ali retired . I'm weird in a lot of ways , this is just another one . I loved the man , no not that way , but I lost heart for the sport when Ali left it It's like when Prime Minster Trudeau left politics , I left with him . The only time I voted again was recently ..... For his son , Prime Minister Trudeau . UFC is bad enough , but now they have women .... It disgusts me .
Just imagine a so called super 7 tournament with RJJ, Hopkins, Toney, Eubank, Benn, Collins and Watson. That would have been epic. A shame Calzaghe wasn't around 4-5 years earlier.
Bad week for me , on the day " The Greatest" is buried , Gordie Howe " Mr.Hockey " dies at 88 ... Heartbreaking week for " The Roofer " .... tough to take when a couple of my biggest inspirations leave for the big " Ring and Rink in the sky ......Rest in Peace .......
