As much as i wish him well, and I hope to whatever god you may hold that he recovers, the honest truth is that anyone requiring CPR for such a long length of time is highly likely to have suffered brain damage due to insufficient oxygen flow.
The positive is that CPR was started very quickly by obviously very competant medical staff.
He will now be intubated in ICU and his body temperature significantly reduced (as they do for all major heart attacks) to slow the bodys metabolism down as low as possible to reduce the need for the heart to work hard.
Its also highly likely that he will have leads inserted directly on the heart attached to an external automatic defibrillator that will activate immediately there is another problem.
Regardless - this is 99% likely to be a myocardial infarction which is the permanent death of areas of heart muscle due to the coronary arteries being obstructed or 'sprung a leak' for want of a better term.
This muscle is dead and will never ever recover.
Muamba will never play professional sport again, its a question of, if he lives, which is still very much THE big question, of what quality of life will be availiable to him.
I really hope for the best, but sadly fear the worst.
Thoughts are with the players family and friends.
