So you are a regular at OT and you have a 'theory' that the anomosity towards the English national team is due to you having a large Irish support? Seeing as you have experianced it yourself surely you would have been able to tell if those guys where Irish or not? I know some English guys and most of them are club over country every time. Nothing to do with a dislike of their country just that they dislike international football. I also know some Irish guys who couldn't care how their national team does.
Did you miss the part where I asked him who hates Britain and he never answered? Do you know what the definition of hypocrisy is or are you from London?
Apprarently not...it would seem that your use of grammar is called into question today, after you chastising my typo yesterday. Many thanks.
I never said I was a regular at OT. I do go when I can afford the money and time. I've heard songs like "You can stick your ****ing England up your arse", but I've had no way of knowing whether it's been non-English people singing them or not. But the majority of my friends are UNited fans, and many of them are anti-England. (Only one of them is Irish, though he is an Ulsterman and is happy for England to do well.) I'm not saying that it's just the Irish United fans that are anti-England, but that it's an under-current that runs through our support. Though I did once see some Irish bloke on a forum once refer to Michael Carrick as an "English ponce"
So what you are saying is that you have English friends that would be against the England international team? Reading what you just typed you have just admitted that it is not an Irish thing. Why did you even mention the Irish in relation to this? Christ Jip all I done was mention the sometimes language can cross over and I have the EDL on my back.
It's a bit of a stretch I admit, but it does make sense. I reckon that it started off as an Irish thing years ago, and slowly spread around the support. In the same way that St Patrick is celebrated by English (idiots). I've got no probs with the Irish anyway, like I said, possibly my best mate is Irish (albeit Norn Irn). I just don't really like the anti-English stuff.
It is anti Govt though not the people. A lot of English dislike many of their Governments policys, including in Ireland. Most of us have English friends and family. Too many Sun headlines saying stuff like 'An attack on our way of life' and other such bollocks so anyone who voices an opinion outside the government/press nonsense that the drones have lapped up is branded anti British. Your theory about the feeling towards the national team in England, you can't honestly blame that on the Irish. All big clubs have it. They fear it might impact on their clubs chances through injury and fatigue and what not. To blame it on the Irish is beyond lazy.
Fair play to most of what you've said, but if you believe the bit I've emboldened, then your knowledge of English football is flawed. No other big English teams have anti-English feelings to a fraction of the extent at Old Trafford and Anfield. They hold up huge anti-England banners at Liverpool, and anti-England songs are sung at United. This is not done anywhere else in England. Some of the anti-Englanders try to justify themselves with the flimsy excuse that MUFC/LFC players have been booed playing for England (Barnes, Beckham, the Neville brothers), but it's a very weak excuse. Like I said, it's just a theory. Another is that because both United and 'pool have enjoyed a fair amount of success on the non-domestic scene (ie in Europe, World Club Cup), we simply don't need the glamour of international football.
What I don't understand though is why, if those that do not like the England international team are actually English (your friends inc), do you blame the Irish? Have they been brainwashed? I genuinely can't see where you are coming from.
The Irish ones don't like England either, probably moreso. There are lots of them, they influence others. And no, they don't brainwash, they use lame reasons like "a hundred West Ham fans burnt an effigy of Beckham, that means we should hate England". Plus a lot of Mancs have Irish heritage too.
I'm not having a go at you in particular but i've seen enough anti British posts on this forum from people who support British football teams
****ing Hell, this fred got all serious in my absence. No England fan gives a flying **** about anti English views of Mancs or Scousers, they can all stew in their stinking Northern cess pits. The real England support comes from the South
