Something I'd like to add to the comment above, when comparing the Toadt with Max Mosley: Mosley's "witch hunts" as Genji puts it, became progressively severe as his term increased, as a consequence of an ever greater influence; what I will term the steam-roller effect. This is the danger associated with all powerful people, and particularly all-powerful people! Left unchecked and without a stabilising influence (effective opposition), the result is very often akin to a vindictive megalomania. Just give the Toadt a similarly lengthy term in office and see if his integrity in that role is not eroded. As I suggested earlier, this is an insidious, creeping process. It is the very nature of the beast.
All power tends to corrupt and absolute power corrupts absolutely. The following bit is particularily true I think. Historically great men are almost always bad men, even when they exercise influence and not authority, still more when you add the tendency or certainty of corruption by full authority. The little poisonous toad will follow the footsteps of his predecessors until he destroys himself, unfortunately its inevitable, its the nature of the animal. Sorry, Cosi I seem to have echoed your statement, exactly the same but different, if you know what I mean.
Toady : A person who flatters or defers to others for self-serving reasons; a sycophant. Just about right I'd say. A group of toads is called a "Knot." Again a good description for a bunch of self-serving megalomaniacs.
Quite right Bergkamp. And Ernie, I'm quite happy to hear an echo as it were! The only thing I would personally avoid is any association of "bad" with "great". Although I know what you mean, this is something of a contradiction in terms (to me).
Cosi, yes, I couldn't quite get the right word, meaning infamous, powerful, non charitable, selfish, idealistic, despot, evil, bad, etc Closest I can get is 'Autrocratic Zoot Poilitikon' maybe you can improve on that !
Hahaha… Nobody Ernie, especially me, could improve on that! - Except that is, for Bergkamp…
Just thought I'd share this link about Todt's approval rating on F1fanatic with everyone, it didn't seem worth a new thread.
Thanks, again. It might be worth registering if anyone wants to express an opinion. please log in to view this image
I would dispute that. I wouldn't do so citing any evidence, though, lest I remind myself of all the reasons I used to cry for Max to bugger off. I'd just dispute it generally, on principle.
He may have presided over its introduction but it wasn't his idea. it was circulating long before he won the election (I remember Max Mosley denigrating the idea in the ITV studios in the late '90s) and, after Alan Donnelly, whoever won the election would have been obliged to instigate it. It's vaguely akin to congratulating David Cameron for taking questions in the House of Commons on a Wednesday afternoon.
My main issue with Todt is that he is so indecisive, look at Bahrain, 2013 regs, 2012 calendar. At least Max made a decision he thought was right and stuck with it such as, do I want to sell the F1 rights for a pittance for 100 years? Yes. Do I want to fine Mclaren a gazillion euros for getting caught doing something all teams do? Yes. Do I want teachers or Nazis to spank me? Nazis.
Oooooooooooooooooh yes indeed, he wanted to give the "power" to the ciruits and not the teams. Guy was ****ing looney and loved his french connections in F1.
