I think you expect too much of Watford fans if you think we might have any insight into his tactics. He started his managerial career with us and quit after about 6 months so it is difficult for us to claim any real insights.

However as you have seen from Swansea - he likes the passing game - even if he does take it to extremes - and he is defensive minded - no bad thing there if you have the players Liverpool can afford for breaks.

On a personal note I happen to think he will go on to become a great manager. He is very self assured - arrogant even and even when starting out with us made no secret of his claims for association with Mourinho. At first I thought he might have moved too soon but on reflection for him it is probably the right time - the second season after promotion is a notoriously hard one as teams have learnt what you are about and sussed you - had he stayed and got relegated he would be another Aidy Boothroyd perhaps.

Quite why a club as big as Liverpool would want him though is hard to guess - he is totally untested at high levels - if Roy Hodgson with his experience struggled at Anfield how much harder will it be for Rodgers to win over respect of big names in the dressing room - and will he be the man to encourage world class players to join - or will they view him as a novice and adopt a wait and see.

Its a "long term project" according to Rodgers.

Will the Liverpool board see it that way though if results aren't any better.

According to a lot of Liverpool fans their home performances weren't too bad last season but they lacked a goalscorer.
 
I know..Suarez is their main attacking threat with Carroll still needing to improve and Gerrard injured more often that not.
 
With where he's from would be more suited to running guns, running a prostitution racket or selling white powder on street corners, a lovely high morals family guy, have you ever seen the miserable git smile? Contrast to GT, always smiling, put his heart and soul into his work with loyalty, amazing word that.
 
Watford fans--it is time to let this go. Why go on about it? No ambitious manager who has belief in his own ability would turn down the chance to manage Liverpool. Rodgers might make a success of it, or he might come a cropper. Since Watford have a connection with him, we might be a bit more interested in how he gets on at Liverpool than , say, how Lambert gets on at Villa--but why get worked up about it? It is how the football business works. Move on.
 
Not really worked up Roger - I think everyone on here seems very calm - I actually wish Rodgers well and hope Liverpool give him enough time to do his job - unlike Reading - but the days of a club being like Man U were for SAF are long gone so he either makes a fairly strong start or goes the way of Hodgson.

He has made the right decision in my mind as the second season for a promoted club is notoriously difficult as their style is now understood - a poor season with Swansea and he could have looked less the "Star"

I just wish he would learn not to make his stupid comments about staying where he is - he should learn the power of "no comment". All he had to do was say he was Swansea's Manager and could not possibly comment on other clubs. Instead he tells people one thing and does another - and let's face it that was why we had a problem with him leaving us - not that he went to Reading which after all was "home" to him.
 
Leornardo--a considered comment from you that I agree with. What is the point of holding a grudge, slagging him off for being a "Judas", calling him a "git" etc? At worst he was naive with his public comments at a time when he was the centre of speculation-- and at a stage when he was a young new manager, not yet adept at dealing with the media. According to my paper he is learning that skill --his first press conference for Liverpool was very impressive.

In fact I think he will be a very good manager at Liverpool , and the style of football he champions--if he can get good English players playing it-- is just what the national team needs. Would Danny Graham be mentioned as a possible England player had he not been influenced by Rodgers? Watch how Henderson will improve under Rodgers. It will be interesting to see what happens to Carrol, but Rodgers did find a role for Rasiak at Watford, and got good performances out of him , after first seeming to write him off. Whatever else he is, Rodgers is not a football fool. At Liverpool he will be developing future England players, so let us hope he succeeds , for that reason as much as any other.
 
As usual Roger I agree with most of what you say. Like Malky we were entitled to a season of "anger" but life is to short to bear long term grudges.
