Very much so. It's even harder when you consider that even the Americans beat the Japanese.

Apparently Moyes has said because he knows nothing about CL football, Giggs will do the tactics in Europe.

I thought incest was illegal in Europe too? <laugh>

How long until the "lack of finances" excuse comes out?

Bow, is that a dig at Moyes or United? Either way it doesn't really work but good luck anyway!

Moyes. And yes it does work if you have listened to him over the past 10 years. If it goes wrong his failsafe is to blame the lack of funds. He cannot do that at united so will be interesting to hear his excuses.

Yeh, finishing 6th, 7th, 7th in the league in the past 3 seasons on Everton's budget has been a failure riddled with excuses. Imagine if Dalglish or Rodgers had those funds to play with, we'd all be talking about Liverpool's return to championship dominance. That's Championship!

They've got the 7th largest budget so it's hardly Florence Nightingale stuff. A club of Everton's size should have won a trophy at the very least. Even Wigan have.

I get the argument that he could have won a trophy. Whether Everton fans would swap an FA Cup win and relegation for top half of the table stability is a question for them. Perhaps he's not a cup manager, arguably Fergie wasn't, but his league record over the past few years has been impressive. I think everyone knows that and it's why Liverpool fans in particular dislike him. Since the 2006/7 season Everton's net spend has been £2million. Liverpool's has been £142million and Everton are currently the top team on Merseyside.

    A few other comparables:
Arsenal - £40million profit (amazing really)
    Fulham - £26million spend
    Stoke - £80million spend
    Sunderland - £88million spend
    Man United - £88million spend
    Aston Villa - £92million spend
    Chelsea - £233million spend
    Man City - £427million spend

Not sure where you get the 7th largest budget theory from DL!

Somtimes just because the Club has massive wealth behind them, doesn't mean it gets spent. My work colleague who supports Everton says that Kenwright doesn't like spending and it prevents them from competing with the teams they should be. They spend relatively little every Season and still finish in the top 8 every time.

Compare Everton's spending with the likes of Tottenham, Liverpool, Manchester United, Arsenal, Chelsea, Manchester City etc, then Everton are doing very well indeed.

You've filed to take into consideration wage bill, which on average costs more than transfers.

I'd imagine their wage bill is far lower than sixth or seventh highest though.

For DL's 7th largest budget theory to stack up, Everton's wage bill would need to be in the top two or three in the league seeing as they spend so little on transfers. No doubt he'll be able to confirm this.

Watford and NOF, I stand corrected, Everton are about 9th on the wage bill.

    Looks like tenth. http://uk.eurosport.yahoo.com/blogs/the-rundown/club-paying-wages-160415004.html

So aligned with their net spend on transfers I think the suggestion that Everton have the 7th biggest budget is probably incorrect.

Interesting to see which clubs and managers have over and under achieved though.

Where are Wigan,Swansea,Birmingham? They managed to win trophies with much less than BA Moyes had to work with.

Two of them are in the Championship. Credit to the other one, they won a trophy and stayed in the PL although they didn't have to beat a big club to win their cup. Good point, well made.
