If those claims are true, then I can only imagine that they didn't offer him sufficient incentives in other areas.

Or, it could be a clever move by Mourhino not to be the first person in after SAF, and the first person to get sacked in the new era at United. Let's face it, whoever takes that job is odds-on onto a hiding to nothing.
