Mogga was a great player for us and will never be forgotten for his exploits, but as a manager? His record over the last few seasons has been dreadful so no thanks. If MM goes then we should look for someone who is on the way up and relatively young, not some old hack whos sacked on a regular basis. On the MM situation what a way to behave towards our club and fans, all he has to do is state his commitment to ITFC but if he cant or wont do that then he should go ASAP and show our club some respect.
The new man should we need one? Terry Butcher as I said on a previous thread, he fits the bill and is worth giving a go.

Terry Butcher would definitely be a no no for me...an absolute legend as a player, but not management material.
Mowbray hasn't ad the best of managerial careers so far, but would suit us to a tee. As mentioned previously by others, does give youth a chance and tries to play football the correct way. I suppose there is a small degree in sentiment, but i think it's always an added bonus that the manager has a connection with the club.

Football managers are a weird bunch, they could something at one club and it works a treat go to another club and do exactly the same thing and it goes tits up.

I would prefer to look at the bigger picture, the bloke and the style and if that is needed at the club at that time. To me when porno paul left Mick was the right bloke at the time, we need somebody strong and organised to get a solid unit placed within the club, that is done in my opinion so we need to look at the extras, how we play and the creative side, This to me is where Mogga beats Mick hands down. Yes there is sentiment involved, but why is that a bad thing? we would have 3 blokes come in who absolutely love this club and would put the club first before themselves, that to me is massive.

Tony Mowbray and Terry Butcher were great for us as players, and born leaders, but as potential managers for us, thanks but no thanks. Butcher did manage a few clubs in England, and just didn't cut the mustard, made a bit of a hash of it, okay he's doing well in Scotland, but this is hardly challenging or demanding, and light years away from the competitive Championship. Mowbray obviously has better credentials, has a reasonable record in our leagues, but can only seem to take a team to a certain level, and not push on. As jwm says, you have to doubt him for signing Leadbitter, and also playing Dyer on loan, when he obviously wasn't fit

I'm sure Ian Holloway won't be at Palace much longer. I am clutching at straws really, there are no obvious choices which is why, I guess, people are mentioning Butcher.

I wonder what the chances are of getting DiMatteo...?
I have a sneaky suspicion tho it could be Curbishley next up for us (although may be a tad bitter in not getting it when MM did)

Mowbrays record at both WBA and Hibs were very good but he did poorly at Celtic and well initially at Middlesbrough but has had an awful 2013. I don't think he's a bad manager but with most managers alot of it is down to luck and if the manager fits in well at the club. I think a manager like Mick would to reasonably at any club at any level in the football league but doesn't have the credentials to do well and step up to the next level, he's a safe pair of hands. Most managers are a gamble and you're never really sure which way it's going to go, with Mick you just get what it says on the tin a solid outfit that will compete.

Alot of other managers perhaps like Mowbray have the potential if they get it right and are a good fit for a club to take it to the next level. If Mick leaves whilst I don't think he leaves us with the best squad (which is why I would be concerned about this season) he almosts leaves us with a blank canvas, the club are sorting out their finances, we're investing in the academy and we appear to be much more relaxed in our ambitions in that we want to do things properly now rather than making short term decisions, this could be an ideal situation for a man who is schooled in the Ipswich way, gives youngsters a chance, plays football in the right way etc.

I think Mowbray had a difficult situation at Middlesbrough in a way similar to that of Jewell here in that he came in with a jumbled up squad full of expensive mistakes from Strachan and had to try sort that situation out whilst trying to compete. It would be a gamble but most appointments are, if everything fell into place it could be a great appointment for us.

In terms of Butcher, never really rated him as a manager although he seems to be doing well currently but hasn't had any success south of the border.

PTC you say that Mowbray inherited a lot of mistakes from Strachan but you forget to mention that it was Mowbray who signed Kieron Dyer and Grant Leadboots! <laugh>

The reality is that Mogga (Bless Him) had a transfer budget to which we can only dream about!

Leadbitter on a free transfer was actually a half decent piece of business for them [clearly a lot of hatred/blinkered opinions of him from lots on here] but he scored a few and has started to look like the sort of player we thought we'd signed (for a ridiculous fee)

As for having a massive transfer budget... players like Adomah weren't that costly (or on extravagant wages) so he certainly can't be accused of wasting money and actually [as previously mentioned] had to cut the wage bill and work under constraints for the majority of his time there.

Warky, sometimes money kills a manager, some managers are in their element scouting for the hidden gems.

I just think that we should leave aside all the sentimentality and when you look at Mogga's managerial record it is distinctly average! <ok>

It may be average warky, but its a lot better than most and we are not in the position to attract a big name. I really hope this debate is all jumping the gun a bit premature.
