As for Fletcher - £4m was a lot of money - but i also feel celtic took the piss. They made a really low bid on the last day of the window - Hibs quite rightly told them to get ****ed. If we were serious about getting fletcher we would have tried on January 1st and entered meaningful discussions - not last second here's £1m take it or leave it - there was absolutley no incentive for hibs to sell to us and no time for them to find a replacement.

I think Lawell almost deliberately made a bid knowing it would be rejected so he could publicly say "we tried to get someone - the deal just couldnt be done"

They obviously were aware he was up for leaving Spurs & the new manager wanted to bring his own players in, he ended up going for £20m to Liverpool which was a bit of a surprise. He was not in Benitez's team and was allowed to move on - ended up going for £9m back to Spurs.

Hardly tapping up as the player was aware he was on the move, prior to that I imagine conversations were had just to see if a move was on the cards or if he was staying put. Which is just as Lawwell said - conversations were had about his future & where he was at the last 4/5 windows
