when i lived down Boulevard throughout the 1980s , the FC lot made a hell of a lot more noise than anything we get at the KC today . I sit in the lower west towards the north stand , its mostly quiet there , though there are the odd small group . Thinking back to BP the most recent years that i was always there 97- when it closed , i stood behind the goal and no matter the crowd , the atmosphere was generally good , with plenty of noise , however nothing has compared to when i was a regular in the 1980s as a teenager behind the goal , it was like being in a lava pit sometimes and i doubt that will ever be recreated.
Interesting that so many of the people posting on the thread about what needs to be done to improve the atmosphere, seem to be saying they don't tend to sing.
Sn****ring aside I get the point being made that the few that make the noise cannot be expected to carry the majority who don't.
Actually DMD, did you read the op. I want to be swept along in a vocal tide, not cohersed by " the chosen few" or worst still an employee of the club. If and when I want, not because I feel I have to.
Ignoring the lack of personal choice for those evicted, are you asking how we encourage that personal choice to favour singing? I sing away almost all the time, the exception being when I feel I'm being treat like a performing seal for others that don't sing themselves. Don't know how it could be arranged or sustained, but the volume goes up when people feel there's a sense of injustice.
Once the North Stand is full of singers the next section to taken over is the northern part of West Stand, upper and lower. The road East is blocked by Away supporters.
Ah, cunning. The first part of the north end of west is the usual home of staff, wags, family and friends. Ideal cover to bring in the pyrotechnics.
I don't know that. Its fairly easy to move them to the South West corner then, away from the more boisterous supporters in the North Stand therefore freeing up more space for those who stand and sing.
To me part of the match day experience is being stood in the middle of the noise makers. close to away fans if possible . Thats always been the case ..Went in west upper once and hated the sky high view...Went in the south stand v brighton and the juniors said they didn't want to go in there again as they like to sing and like to be with the noise makers ..I doubt if I would bother going if I had to go in the west stand every game . I stand as much as I can but sometimes rest by sitting on back of seat as right legs a bit knackered .
Scar my point is that I don't want a manufactured atmosphere. What you do is a normal part of going to the KC pom pom wielding oversized puppets conducting the singing is what I don't want.
I know this won't / can't happen, but if could sit where you want within your stand ( for example our new kop the north stand ) the noisy singers could collect together center and back. the older, less able bodied and kids to the sides and front. Old school supporters like Filey could start of center and back, then move forward or to the side to sit down if his leg starts to give him jip. Just like it was in Bunkers, ah the good old days.
I think this whole process has been pretty dreadful from the club, however, I am hoping that in spite of the difficulties surrounding the logistics of this move that it actually turns out to be a good thing, and becomes a hub of enthusiastic noise.
Dunno. Do you tut when the bloke next to you stands up and shouts "throw the ****ing ball to one of our ****ing players!" at least 12 times a game? Drives me daft that aspect of our game. No one moves for it, ball ends up with the opposition.
