Good post. I think cos we've come to the premier league party very late, we are only just realising how **** it all is. Just a tit bit i heard but a lot of the moaning about E1-3 being moved is cos quite a few are on concession tickets and shouldnt be and areworried about getting found out.
Correct. You are also not a performing seal. I don't comply with this exhortation either. Even worse the gay 'Jump up if you're Hull City'. There are lots of ways of backing the team vocally and visually. I avoid concourse sing-songs- waste of breath. I ignore Steve Jordan's bingomaster bluster. Each to his/her own.
Shrug it off as moaning if you wish, but West stand must be quietest in Prem. Maybe it has the most new fans in? The posh folks who snubbed BP. Most grounds are quieter than they used to be. That seems to suit the agenda of the people currently running the sport. 'Inclusive' (except economically!), socially engineered, over-policed, over-regulated and brain-washed into believing it's all about a world class product.
I don't just shrug it off Stuey, i'm posting on this board about it. What do you propose we should do about it ? I'm all ears.
Do what you want. It's a free country (nominally). Sing, shout, clap etc when you want and as you feel appropriate.
I for one would love to be in an area that sang and chanted, at Wembley for both the Semi and final I was in an area where others around me sang and I really enjoyed joining in. However I am in my mid- sixties now, and have circulation problems, so chose to join the Premier club, so in winter I can at least get a warm at half time. I certainly cheer, shout and applaud during games, and stand up when something worth cheering about is happening. But around me there are a few that do the same but the majority just want to watch the game and applaud when there is a goal.
You would no doubt ridicule/find fault/moan if I prescribed a set of suggestions. You just want to moan.
As a West Stander, the Wembley experiences made me think about moving to the north stand as I thoroughly enjoyed being part of the vocal/chanting. What stopped me was the fact that unlike Wembley, I usually accompany my son or my niece on match-days, both of whom are under 10. Had this been the case as well at Wembley, I would have had to constrain an awful lot of what came out particularly abuse aimed at the referee, or the opposition. The West Stand and South Stands are littered with kids under 10, so to some extent you have to expect some restraint.
Cattle prod. If not I've got nothing. Those clapper things worked quite well. Was that last game against Cardiff at end of champ?
I don't know if part of it is that the stands have their own personalities. There seems to be little connection from one to the next. There is no fluidity, no natural flow. I remember having a conversation in t'pub post game with an E3er and there seemed to be a different take on it to the west standers. Apparently the east is where the passion is.
Strange one minute some are saying why doesn't everyone sing and make more noise, then when asked what to do they say " please yourself, its a free country". Well apparently not as you aren't allowed to watch a game of football unless you stand up for the whole of the game while singing or shouting from start to finish. Make your ****ing minds up.
Some go to games to shout abuse at the oppo fans, some go to sing, some go to moan at anyone doing what they want to do, be that sit or stand, some go to watch football being played. For some its a tribal thing, others its a routine, others its a special treat or just a fabulous day out. Personally I tend to lose myself in the football being played, will jump up if we score, or nearly score, I shout encourage at our players and point out the ref's errors if he makes any, and question the parentage of any players who injure ours. I rarely, if ever, sing, although I enjoy listening to the cleverer and funnier songs. If I have someone next to me who is clearly bothered by my enthusiasm, I do tend to temper it down a little, usually by swearing less. I agree with the seat move, like Chazz suggested, some people will get found out who are leeching off the rest of us, and in general terms, I don't think we should have away fans behind either goal, moving some sections of the East there is worth trying for those that want a cauldron of noise. I will never understand why any fans try to belittle other fans or judge them on how they choose to support the team/watch football, unless they're breaking the law of course.
