I have a grudging respect for 'Pool, this season. To have gone through the midtable crisis they've been through, these past years, and to bounce back the way they have, even if it is only for a short while, is a tremendous effort. And, yes, Goofy has shown great restraint. I'm sure it won't last, but, at least, he's shown the willingness to try to act like a normal person.

What would be fantastic - if by some miracle 'Pool can finish 4th - would be for all you Mousers to come out and say, "We did brilliantly this season, and punched well above our weight, but let's get back to business and 7th/8th next season, eh, lads." It would be fantastic if Mousers could finally accept that 'Pool is now a second-tier side, and learn to be thankful when the better teams around them - for what ever reason - cock-up enough to give them a lucky break. When Ladbrookes can finally report not every Mouser and his dog has, at the start of every season, put his shirt and the dog-basket on "this year being our year" and loading the odds, that will be the day that I find a charity shop and buy a shell-suit, and make the long trip to Merseyside to dance away the night with you all, to Cilla and Gerry.

Inferior to who? Liverpool? You haven't even finished above us yet! Hold off on the party hats and cake until then :D

I never said we will finish above Spurs YV, I was laughing at the need for comparisons as a comfort blanket from your posters.

<whistle>

PS, if the battle for 4th goes to the wire Spurs GD will count bigtime, maybe if you sign a trusted former player like Defoe he'll chip in with a few.<ok>

The comparison's very valid with the way the media have gone on about Liverpool being excellent(particularly when you were top for Christmas) and how we've apparently been a mess yet there are 2 points difference between us. You guys sure mocked us for being a mess after the 5-0 too so perhaps this is a bit of a sobering situation for you guys too.

It was you that mentioned inferiority complex and I was stating that we have no reason to feel inferior to you yet because you haven't finished above us.

It could well be that GD comes into it at the end of the season but points are more valuable than GD as we showed in 09/10 when we had a lower GD than City but finished with more points. You can bet they'd have swapped a couple of thrashings for nicking a few extra points in other games.

I think what has got to be appreciated, here, is that Spurs is emerging as a major force in football at a time during which 'Pool's influence has been in retreat. I'm not suggesting that 'Pool will become a non-entity in the way that, for example, Leeds has become, but that is a possibility.

Until we have kicked out of the media all the ex-Pool players and Mouser-lovers, like Mark Saggers, we won't get any proper perspective on the situation. It's very annoying when us normal fans want to move forward into the future of football, but the media keeps holding us all back with a dinosaur-view that presents 'Pool as still being a power in football.

Surely, we're all grown up enough to move on?

you spent £100million in the summer and were tipped for the title with the first few weeks whereas we have a wafer thin squad and were nailed on 6th place by all the pundits. I think you are the ones who have sobered up somewhat from your pre-season giddiness. Sacking AVB was your biggest mistake and you will forever be an "emerging" team in "transition", certainly as Sherwood is hardly one for the future.

Pundits were tipping us but the vast majority of fans were hoping for top 4, as we do every year. If we spent £100mill then we also sold £100mill worth of talent too so lets not pretend we went on some wild spending spree, once it became clear we were going to lose our best player again late on in a transfer window it became about compensating for that. You guys spent far more on your in terms of net spend.

Anyway, you're showing your bitterness again we're doomed to be "forever an emerging team" where as the mighty Liverpool are an emerging team that errr... how are you different to us again?

What's saved your season is the fact that you refused to give Goofy his dream-move to the Gunners. He has had a cracking season for you, like RVP did for United last season. Without him, you'd be struggling to maintain a foothold in the top half of the table.

Your squad cost almost exactly the same as ours

We were top of the league during his ban and we're not now.<whistle>

I think we've received plaudits for the way we have played this season. Bare in mind we're second top scorers in the league, scoring almost double the amount of goals you've scored. Let me put it like this, without Suarez's goals we'd of still scored more than you. In terms of points gained no one has really dismissed your point tally, it's more (under AVB) your style of play which has been criticized, your goals to games ratio was poor considering the amount of points you've picked up. As we all know, all that matters is points on the board opposed to goals and you all had noted that despite everything it was your best start to the PL ever, which considering how things have gone in recent years makes our plaudits very much justified.

You're looking much better under Sherwood, I think once he works out your best eleven you'll really hit your stride and have a decent chance of finishing fourth. I see most of you are using the fact that you haven't been at your best as a positive which is fine, don't blame you for not being pessimistic. But surely the fact that we're playing good football already and we've already gone to every top ground in the league bar Old Trafford will work in our favour and gives us a decent shout of finishing in the top four?

As long as he doesn't exile any of them to the bench as well...

I man scoring regularly will keep you high up in the table,helping goal difference too,but remember when he's gone so will you be Liverpool....especially with that awful defence!

Every one said that before Suarez's ban.. Then in the 10 games without him we won 8, drew 1 and lost 1. It's an easy argument to be honest, like I said, without Suarez's goals we've still scored more goals than you. Half of our defence is injured, wasn't that your excuse too when we put 5 past you? I do admit though, as individuals our defence is good, as a unit it doesn't function well.. Whether that is down to personnel or Rodgers is debatable. I'd rather watch a good attacking team than a solid unit anyway.

Hypothetically, if we were to get CL and Suarez was to leave we'd be in a good position to get a good replacement. The attraction of CL + the minimum of £70m will give us a decent shout of signing some one class to partner Sturridge.

.. As long as he doesn't have a ponytail and is a Geordie.

I think you won those game minus Suarez because,like Arsenal,you had a lot of games against the bottom echelons of the league.Like Arsenal,you are having trouble with teams at the top...even with Tottenham's charity!

Actually it reflects worse on you lot for throwing a hissy fit when AVB actually kept you so close the top of the pack in a season where you have so many new signings. It's pathetic. And you will never get CL under Sherwood

Steady on buddy! It wasn't posted to WUM (as I leave that to HIAG) but more a genuine comparison as I actually enjoy you're attacking displays and have a degree of respect for Rodgers and the way he has got you to pass and move, plus destroy teams in an attacking sense BUT as a team you have been over rated, that doesn't mean you're not a good team, just like Everton you have both been over praised.

As for AVB, I actually wanted him to stay until the end of the season as I knew if we sacked him there would be no real options other then a desperate move for Capello! and when Sherwood was appointed I wasn't exactly smiling! but now I am starting to enjoy his management as like Rodgers he is happy to play kids and wants to play attacking football.

No I don't believe we will finish top four yet if as expected the top three are Chelsea, Man City, Arsenal then the final place is between yourselves, Everton, Man Utd, Us and possibly Newcastle and even if I don't believe we can get top four, there is still a chance.

Weren't Saints top of the table, very briefly?

What I'm saying is, don't get over-excited, eh, lads? I've already gone on record as saying that, when the CL dream comes crashing down around your heads, be thankful for what you did in the early part of the season (against all the real easy sides, including us who were crippled by so many changes). You showed some real promise at the start of this season, and there are real signs there that you're not that far behind Everton.
<ok>
