After more than 50 years I'd like to see us win something significant. Preferably before I pop me clogs! I don't want us to turn into George Graham's Gooners, or anything. But, a bit of a more ruthless attitude, and we could do it.

If we finish in a CL spot, my concern is, I don't think the likes of Rodgers and even Moyes are going to attract the right kind of top player needed, they're relatively unheard of around Europe, players take the manager they're working under into serious consideration too.

Roberto Martinez would be a risk but he impresses me so i'd definitely consider him.

  4. These are the managers that I definitely do NOT want:-

    Moyes
    Hodgson
    Holloway
    Rogers
    Sven
    Coyle
    Pardew

I'm sure each of these guys is a really good manager and coach and could add much to our club, but if we are going to push on with a CL campaign next year, strengthen our squad with marque signings, and keep the likes of Bale and Modric, as well as sign Adebayor, we are going to have to get in someone with a bit more clout than any of them.

At a push, I'd take MON, because I think he has the same man-management abilities as Harry, and could inspire the lads to maintain their high levels of performance.

My heart, however, is set on getting in someone like Mourhinio, and I simply refuse to accept a lot of the (same old repetitive) rubbish that has been spoke about him, that he'll only go to a club that will spend (ie. waste) stupid sums of money buying players that we don't really need, or that we could not afford him, blah, blah, blah. Of course, we could afford him, and of course he'd be interested in joining us, and of course he'll be a step up for us, despite all the rubbish being spoken about his "style" of football. Yes, I recognise that it probably a pipe-dream, but only because he's likely to stay in Spain, or be snapped up by one of the Italian giants, not because he would consider us to be too lowly for him.

    Mourinho to Spurs is trending?

    So?

It means nothing, it is pure fantasy and speculation spread by Tottenham Hotspur supporters.

Hiddink and van Gaal are both available.

I've a feeling you might get one of them, if your chairman can meet their wage demands. The other name that stands out to me is Poyet, unless it's too soon for him.

Well, a good start would be because they (Madrid) scored 12 more goals in the league than free scoring Barca last season, and 10 more already this season....must be boring and negative to achieve that! eh! <whistle>...have we all forgot the attacking players Chelsea had aswell?

Media bandwagon, people should use their own eyes.

I just don't get it, some of these comments. Mourinho is a winner, and probably the outstanding manager of his generation. How many more times has he got to prove it? Will he come to Spurs? Highly unlikely, IMO.

Or, God forbid, George Graham's Spurs team. That was dull! Even that Carling Cup win was tedious!

Notso - good post, you've actually made me think about my prejudices. Come to think of it they were a little too exciting in our CL quarter final, could have done with him conforming to his stereotype and it would have been less embarrassing!

Mourinho wins for himself though, not the club. When Inter won the treble, all eyes were on Mourinho, not Inter and the players. I'd hate that; a manager who doesn't embrace the club and the fans and basically is out for himself. Although wouldn't mind us winning the treble...

Doubt we'd get Mourinho. Even if rumours of him leaving Madrid are true and he wants a return to England, we couldn't afford him unless he'd accept a massive pay cut.

IF we do lose Harry (will be devastated if we do), I'd want Rodgers (just signed a new deal though so wouldn't come cheap and may not be interested) or Moyes. Someone like Rijkaard wouldn't be a bad shout either.

I'd be wary of Rijkaard as he's used to the continental system that failed so badly for us.

True. Think Levy will opt for a British manager anyway mate, just think Rijkaard could be an outsider what with his experience etc.

I would have liked Rodgers as a gamble, but he has just signed a new 3.5 year contract with Swansea and he has more or less publicly shown his loyalty to the Swans for backing him and making him feel at home. Its a sad time when stating one's loyalty is considered admirable.

I think that the most likely manager to join Spurs, if HR leaves would be Moyes. Many believe he has done wonders for Everton, and it would be natural for him to want to take the step up to a bigger club like Spurs. Plus his wages would be no where near the level of Mourinho.

I would like to see Hiddink though.

Oh I agree and he's a good manager just not really for us.

Yeah Rodgers is definitely my number 1 choice, though as both me and you have stated previously, the new deal pretty much makes that a no-goer, though as they say "Anything can happen". His style at Swansea is literally a mirror image of how we play. Perfect replacement in my eyes. Not bothered about his reputation abroad, players should hopefully want to join a club for their objectives/ ambitions/ reputation/ style of play.

Hiddink's not a bad shout, though would he come to us after his ties with Chelsea? Seems be fond of them and isn't he close with Abromovic also? So not sure if a move to one of their rivals would take his preference.

Laurent Blanc is free after the Euros, and he's done superb job turning the French around, and he's done pretty good at Bordeaux as well. if we can get Hiddink, he should be the first choice - not least because the Hammersmith Cuckoos would explode with envy.

I think everyone would be better off if 'Arry stayed at Spurs long term, Mourinho to the England post (he keeps banging on about returning to England!).

This way I think Spurs will keep developing without having to risk getting a manager to ruin their style of play or a shoddy manager who can't hack it. At the same time Mourinho's only real fault is he doesn't play particularly attractive football, but that doesn't matter because the guy knows how to win things and that's all you need to do in cup competitions with England.
