I have to concur with the above comments. Even younger than Giroud's current age, RVP showed his technical class. I think Giroud is very good and has the potential to become a top striker, but not world class. Doesn't matter much, Cole and Yorke weren't exactly world class either but they were very good. They had a great midfield behind them and won the treble. I also think Walcott will have a field day and when Poldi's back, his finishing class will reap dividends. My only disappointment is that we didn't get another striker in to bridge the gap between now and Poldi's return.
Well - I'm a old bloke and even I find using gay references as a slur, to be offensive. I also don't see how this is anything other than a personal attack, hardly fun.
Nothing personal about it, it just happened to be you that was praising giroud. Im sorry if you're offended but I think you are misunderstanding my point if you think I was being homophobic...
Neither was I. It was more down to you getting too excited about Giroud and Krome threw a joke in and I laughed. Agreed it was being juvenile but it's just a little bit of fun. No harm intended.
Then I apologise for taking offence. I've been taking a bashing from Hans so I'm probably over-sensitive.
Giroud could profit famously from Ozil's service. He's not exactly a bundle of skill but he's good at finding space and finishing off a great move/pass. I think of him as a poacher, and any good poacher needs adequate service to compliment his talents. I said over the summer that Giroud would have a better second season, and am looking forward to see what's possible. P.S. My Giroud poster is laminated for easy wipeability
When Poldi is back, we should play him through the middle. If Ozil makes the sort of impact you all think he will, then it would be more beneficial for us to have our best finisher playing through the middle.
It's hard to dispute the idea that Poldi's best position is up front, and I hope to see him more in that position this season. To be fair to Giroud though, he might be a better finisher if Ozil is supplying the chances.
I think positionally Giroud is better at playing the CF role, he knows where to be etc.. Podolski seems to not quite be where he needs to when he plays through the middle. He also doesn't give us as much as Giroud does in terms of aeriel threat, holding up the ball and flick-ons. With a string of games in the CF role though his positioning would probably improve as he has performed there previously in his career. He has maybe looked a little out of practice. He does have a sweet left foot though and i agree that with Ozil feeding him he would get plenty of goals as a striker.
Yes, but on the flipside, if Ozil is supplying the chances, then Podolski would still be better than Giroud.
That's debatable though, Giroud is a pretty good finisher and gets himself into some great positions. Personally I think the bloke has been massively underrated by some people. Don't forget that he scored 21 goals in all comps in his first season in the PL and he had a strike rate of almost 1 in 2 He's got in 4 in 5 games so far this season and with Ozil supplying him, he could conceivably rack up a big tally this season. I like Podolski, but I think he's needed for when we can't break the opposition defence down and we need to play more directly through the middle and take shots, i.e. when teams park the bus.
