Manchester United have not, are not and will not be competing to win the ****ing premier league for the foreseeable future. The focus of the United executives and owners is in winning the trophy in another league entirely. That of the biggest and richest football club in the world and the biggest income generator. More attention and energy is being spent as a publicly listed company on making lucrative deals than in deciding who is the best manager or players to bring in. The football on the pitch is only a minor secondary issue. When Fergie retired and the team drifted on the pitch, the club was getting stronger and stronger in the various stock exchanges. In the business world United is the undisputed No 1.One of the biggest sporting brands in the world with an ever increasing global fan base. With the rising financial power of the premier league via its lucrative broadcasting rights the title and the champions league are no longer viewed (by United) as the absolute essential requirements. Premiership participation is because the money provided by the league dwarfs anything the CL can provide even to its champions. Our ****ing executives and owners have very little motivation in doing well on the football pitch. Like any business reliant on marketing and publicity there is no such thing as bad news for United. Pogba falling out with Mourinho? Great. Our key players sitting on the bench against the RS? Even better. Sanchez being a ****ing waste of space and the highest earner in the league? Fantastic. Unrest in the squad? Great publicity. Playing new unknown youth players? Don’t bet on it. Try the Sanchez, Pogba Lukaku who have more global recognition. When I said we needed at least £300m to turn the club around in the first post Ferguson season, it was met with derision and disbelief here on this board. Yet we have spent much more. Was it spent to improve the squad and the performance on the pitch? May be but the priority was to keep the marketing department and the sponsorships going. Pogba, Sanchez Lukaku, even Mourinho ticked these boxes. Am I holding my breath for a title challenge in the next few years ? No. Will ****ing Woodward ever be replaced by the greedy glazers? Never in a million years when he is such a money earner for them. United will probably remain in the top 6, perhaps top 4 in the next few years (not this season obviously) languishing in mid table. That’s the wonderful prospect waiting for the fans. But they shouldn’t get too down as we are not in danger of relegation. Not yet anyway - mind you with OGS in charge we should keep fingers firmly crossed ... Best wishes to all. https://www.independent.co.uk/sport...r-profit-trophies-jose-mourinho-a8693896.html
