Yet another unprovoked attack. This is getting boring now, seriously, what is his obsession? Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho has appeared to criticise Arsenal counterpart Arsene Wenger, "the king" who is "not under pressure". Wenger thought goading from Chelsea striker Diego Costa led to Gabriel's red card in last weekend's meeting. Mourinho, not naming anyone, said: "He can speak about referees, push people in the technical areas, can cry in the morning and afternoon, nothing happens. "Cannot achieve, keep his job, can still be the king, it is privilege." The pair have had a long-running rivalry, with Mourinho famously calling Wenger a "specialist in failure". "In this country only one manager is not under pressure, every other manager is under pressure," Mourinho said. "Manuel Pellegrini, Brendan Rodgers, Steve McClaren. We cannot lose matches, we cannot be below expectations." When asked who he was referring to, Mourinho said: "You know."
Is he wrong? Perhaps wrong to say it but is he actually wrong about Wenger? This seems to be along the lines of what a lot of Arsenal fans on here say about Wenger.
Right, I take a few issues with this. First of all, regardless of whether he is right or wrong, there is something called professional courtesy. Think whatever you like about someone and by all means have your own opinions of them, but why the need to publicise every single criticism of them? Why constantly undermine them in the media? There's really no need to put negative comments like in the public domain almost all the time, I just don't see why it's necessary. Second of all, I don't think it's right to say he is under 'no pressure'. Maybe he isn't under much pressure from the board, but there have been a multitude of articles, videos and podcasts criticising Wenger for one reason or another. He gets scrutinised by the fans all the time, in addition to the numerous sports journalists and pundits who have lambasted him for his lack of activity in the transfer window or for his management qualities. Whether you think it is justified or not is an entirely separate issue.
I did say he is perhaps wrong to publicly express this opinion. I just don't think the opinion itself is incorrect.
I would say he is very wrong. If he feels under so much pressure it is because he is failing to meet his clubs requirements, if Wenger is under no pressure then that is because he is successful at this.
But then you could argue that Wenger is obviously set quite lenient requirements each year. That is really the crux of the matter. Mourinho is jealous of the Arsenal owners and the easy targets they set.
That could be a fair assessment, no need to blame Wenger for it though. Too much jealousy in my opinion, seems Jose has never found a club he could satisfy.
