I wondered what happened to my ex-wife - seems she's taken time off from spending the family money at the shops to do something sensible like attend a footie match. No doubt to hurl abuse at Watford who I clearly love far more than her!!. If it isn't her it must be a relative - she thought she had the right to park anywhere she liked and it was always someone else's fault and never hers, and there was no way she would be allowed to look a fool by someone else when it was obvious she was one. Not sure why she thinks its the clubs fault that the coach clipped her car - it wasn't as if the players were driving - they were being driven in it by a driver of a coach company. I do wonder if this is someone who wants to see her name in the press and maybe seeking a little more compensation - no doubt to spend down in the sales at Cribbs Corner.
Dissapointed that some players and their supporters get pleasure out of someone else's misfortune.... and then to call her a "silly cow"... All through no fault of her own.....
The damage to her car may be no fault of her own or indeed some youngsters making fun of her (as youngsters have always done) - but seeking maximum publicity is entirely her fault and once she has crossed the line there can be no surprise that she get ridiculed for it.
But why should she get ridiculed when "public" figures : Deeney and Forestieri, make fun of her misfortune... they are in the wrong to do so... so why should she pay the price? I wonder if it was a WFC supporter and BC players ... the response from WFC supporters would be different?
It wouldn't be different from me - as far as I am concerned if she hadn't tried to seek publicity by going to the local press and the Wobbly (and even the daily Mail - good grief) then I wouldn't have a problem. But the fact she has means she has left herself open to criticism. As for Deeney and Foresteri - they may be public figures but they are also young men who are behaving in the same way as young men have throughout the ages. It isn't a repeat of Deeney's behaviour in Birmingham which was rightly condemned, it was two youngsters having what they would term "a laugh". They are behaving no differently from those amongst us (and i include myself in this) who before Twitter would be laughing about it in the pub - using the same terminology as BHD does above. This no doubt would have been passed on and passed on until the whole town knew about it. I fail to see the difference except now twitter makes the outcome quicker.
If the situation were reversed, and it was a Watford fans car that had been poorly parked, in a poor spot and had been crashed into and the players tweeted similar comments and the person goes to the press then I would still call the owner (male or female) the same. Its a stupid thing to do, why do the national press need to know about this? Its overkill and petty. She could simply contact the club and resolve the matter with them.
Dan - whether or not it was a stupid thing to do there is no need to call someone you do not even know a stupid cow. It is rude and offensive to some and certainly IMHO not language befitting a Moderator - in fact you seem to call people names too easily. Turning to the issue. She ASKED AN OFFICIAL if she could park there and was given the OK - maybe someone as clever as you clearly are would have said no - that would be stupid and gone off somewhere else and walked for goodness knows how far wiith a one year old baby in your arms together with the paraphernalia that goes with babies and which people a little more experienced in such matters than you understand. When the damage was done she asked to board the coach and sorted out whatever insurance aspects there were - I suspect she would have left it there - she did not appear to be seeking some big payout but doing what any motorist whose car has been hit would do. The bit that you find hard to understand is she then learnt that these highly paid young men - and they are highly paid by a nurse's standard - were making fun of it. There is no suggestion she is a football supporter so it is not an anti Watford thing. She saw red. She contacted WFC as these arrogant insensitive young men worked for them and she rightly wondered what the club think of their players bringing the reputation of the club into disrepute. Most employers take a dim view of such things. I did not see who actually contacted the papers but assume it was her - whether that was a clever thing to do or not is open to judgement but she was angry and personally I might too have thought to puilicly shame the players - or I might have decided not to - who knows? You need to try to see both sides of a position before using derogatory terms about people you do not even know
It seems that not only footballers believe posting on the internet is not visible to the whole world and they can be seen as the crass oaths that they seem to, but others appear who contribute on here to want to emulate them as well. Quite pathetic really.
Yellotoyou - this "stupid cow" was herself only young 29 - so you condone two highly paid footballers - one of whom has been warned to be on his best behaviour for going public and yet you condemn her for going public too. If I was 29 again with a young baby and my car had been ruined I too might get angry and maybe lash out slightly more than I would when cool calm and collected. These footballers have a public position and know they are ambassadors for their club - they are not ordinary young men and need to understand the responsibility that goes with their position. I bet the club do not condone their behaviour - and my bet is that this will be the last nail in Deeney's Watford coffin. Shame he did not serve his full prison sentence then he would not have been around to make offensive tweets.
Do you mean oafs rather than oaths? This comment of yours is ridiculous - we all know that this is a public debate and so most of us are not using abusive language about people who suffer misfortune - who are you referring to as emulating the footballers? and what is pathetic?
Yes, Lenny poor spelling, I meant oafs. I think you have misunderstood my comments (probably badly worded as well) - I am 100% behind your position.
I am not sure we are in 100% agreement are we? I think she did nothing wrong at all other than naively think a football steward was worth asking permission to park and then striking out in anger - as most of us do at times. The footballers did everything wrong in making fun of someone in public when they are ambassadors for WFC. Is that your position too?
Yes Leo she did ask a Steward, but they were appalling, they were allowing fans to walk alongside the coach as this happened! Surely you would agree that that is dangerous, there were young people within feet of the car when this happened! In fact one was disciplined there and then because he was not doing his job. So I wouldnt listen to them too much. I fully understand her contacting the club and I would hope and expect disciplinary action to be taken against the offending players. What I dont understand is the need to go public to the press. What is gained by it?
Yes, totally in agreement. I am totally fed up with footballers on Twatter generally and this is another example of that and it now pulls our club into spotlight. Then the comments and vitriol on here virtually blaming the poor women is what I find pathetic. She only did what most people in her position would do and that is to make sure she does not become the victim twice. I was originally of the opinion that Deeney had done his time and I was OK with him pulling on a Watford shirt again - after the couple of recent events, I would now like to see him move on.
Thank goodness for that - I thought I had moved into an alternate universe - your comments are usually so reasonable and well argued and I just could not see how you would line up with Dan on this one - I must have read your comments badly - cheers
Oh that's all right then she is obviously a stupid cow then - let's all call her names for being so stupid to not realise officials should not be listened to. Perhaps Hornette can tell us how motorists who park badly deserve to have their cars driven into. And as for doing something rash whilst you were angry well that is unheard of and anyone who does it is a really stupid cow. Dan - I have said enough - I think you and I could argue till the stupid cows come home and not agree here. Try re-reading this in ten years when you have matured a little
No Lenny, I am struggling with putting words into any sort of coherent order this morning - must be a mix of the beer last night and general Xmas excess!
A interesting thread which maybe shows up the difference between those of us who have been around longer than others. Respect for other people and their property was something that I was certainly brought up to believe in, and poor use of language, name calling, mocking others was not thought to be the way to behave. Could it be that these principles of decency towards people are no longer thought to be worthwhile? I hope not. As for Twitter, it can be a useful tool if you can live in a world that exists on sound bites, but from the little I see of it, it is used in a way that does little to express thoughts. Repetition and silly comments a lot of the time, although it can be good to know that Jon Marks is in Bristol watching the rain come down.
Well put Frenchie..... The trouble with electronic communication is exposed here too from all the different perspectives. I do hope we can moderate what we write on these boards where we have a collective of people who are in the main respectul of each other...
