I would agree. One of my good mates is a Spurs season ticket holder and he would even agree. The games in Europe against Inter etc gave him so much attention, yet he's failed to live up to it. Yeah he's good on his day - but vastly over-rated.
I may seem biased for obvious reasons but you obviously don't watch him enough if you think he's had 5 good games. I agree he shouldn't have won footballer of the year but considering the votes are made by players he actually played against tells you that they didn't think he played terrible. If you actually watched him you would realise how opposing teams all make plans specifically to stop bale. And while they sometimes work it leaves space that other players benefit from.
Are you telling me none of you would want Bale in your team? I know I would. He is overhyped somewhat but an excellent team player with pace to burn and a good finisher. A bit like Riise only plays higher up the pitch. Overrated..John Terry , Frank Lampard , Arshavin, Lescott and last but far from least,Rooney.
I think he was just saying giggs should not have won it after a few good games in that period. Like you said about Bale.
I'm not saying Bale is a bad player at all, I think he's a good player but simply overrated. People were talking about him being world class etc where I believe he is far from being that. All good players have plans to stop them but the top players find a way of coping with that which is something Bale hasn't really done in my opinion.
I agree with that he shouldn't have won it ( in that year )but as we're talking about overrated players I think it was just a dig.
In the year that Giggs won footballer of the year, yes he was overhyped. He, as you pointed out with Bale, had about 5 good games. No doubting that he's been one of the best/consistent players in the Premiership though. Bale is overhyped as he isn't a world class player but that doesn't mean he's not good and would probably get into every team in the Premiership as there aren't many other decent left wingers.
TBH I was just disagreeing when you said he had only 5 good games. Everything else that you've just said I can see where you're coming from (even though I don't agree obviously!)
5 was just a random number I picked tbh . I was just trying to get at he hasn't done it consistantly enough to be considered at the level some people are / were talking about him as being at.
Don't see how Lampard is overrated! Top goal scorer from midfield in Premier League history . (call me biased but that's a fact) ****e for England yes but that's not what this thread's about. About Giggs - you have to remember his age, he's awesome for a 37 year old.
With regards to Lampard, I think if he doesn't score goals then he doesn't really add much to the team? If you were going to have a midfielder that wasn't going to score you goals would you have Silva, or Mata, or Lampard? Two of them are going to create so much for the rest of the team where as I'm not sure what the other brings? No doubt as a goal threat he isn't overrated, but as a complete midfielder he is.
You have to take into consideration that Giggs only played 64 times for Wales during his career which probably prolonged his time as a player whereas JT never **** on his country for the sake of his club career. but they're both a pair of twats for their shadey off-field activities.
I watch him week in week out and have done since he signed in 01, he's brilliant and one of the most intelligent footballers in the league. His physical side is the thing that's always let him down and even so, he still played consistantly. I'd agree to some extent that goals is 'all he offers' but his work rate is immense and box-to-box wise, there's nobody better (maybe now, but not over the past 6-7 years). PMK - I agree, I still think Giggs is overrated at the moment, he was a brilliant players in his day but come on lad give it up already! Should never have won PFA, they felt sorry for him because he'd never won it before . Still 37 isn't a bad age to be making the United 18!
Sorry lads but rooney isnt overrated. Over hyped by the media when England are playing yes but in general hes not. We all know his faults and we all know what he can do. He is quite capable of being the 3rd best player in the league and anyone who says they wouldnt welcome him into their club is lying. Simple as that. Hes a striker who can play all the roles aswell as in other postitions. For me the most overrated player is Tevez.
It's fun coming to a thread like this late. All of the players considered above have far more ability than we internet pundits had/have/ will have in out enitre footballing careers! Perhaps we should consider that before we start demolishing them? The other point is. Are you not directing your fire at the wrong target? All of this "overrating" is not done by the playes themselves but by the media pundits. Perhaps you should be identifying them and hanging them out to dry? Just a thought.
Dave some people have really misunderstood this thread. It's not to have a pop at anyone or to call anyone it is simply a thread for people to say who they they are overrated by others. An internet forum is about giving an opinion so if you couldn't give one because they are better than we are / ever will be would result in nil posts. Relax Dave
Eric, I'm totally chilled on this one Problem is we are not comparing like with like eg Bale and Giggs so the comparisons are useless. Still it helps past the time. perhaps I'm starting to get demob-happy
