    Haha <ok>

    It's tricky.

A mate of mine who I went to Uni with and who is a season ticket holder at Southampton has been giving me some stick!

'Closet Scouser' is his current favourite.

You're lucky growing up (I presume) in a city with one big club - decision made for you really.

I agree with some of this, but not other bits. Would find it hard to stop supporting Saints though I have never lived in Southampton and have 2 teams local to me who aren't terrible. Only thing that used to annoy me slightly was that none of my real mates would be up for going to games as they all supported different teams, so when I did go a fair bit it was with my old man/his mates and their sons. My old man has lost interest over the last few years and I can't really be bothered to be making the 4 hour round trip and £200 day out by myself all that often. On the other hand though my caring about Saints has probably never been lower than it has over the last 4/5 years, don't know if I'm just growing out of football or if that is something to do with the PL or maybe simply that I rarely attend games. Have no idea how anyone can be that bothered if they don't go, but whatever that's a different argument.

Couldn't care less if the the whole team was foreign or the money side of the game really, that is just part and parcel of globilalisation and the world becoming smaller which I view as a good thing.

    Fair points.

Interesting your point about growing out of football or perhaps a premier league thing.

That's how I felt and in fact a few of my mates too.

Not the interest that it was.

My mates have either remained the same or can't really be arsed but remain casually interested in their team and football in general.

    My closest mates are:

    2 x Liverpool
    2 x United
    2 x Chelsea
    1 x Newcastle
    1 x Portsmouth

I still like football and will basically have it on all the time when I am at home. Whether that be some live game thats on from somewhere in the world, or highlight shows etc. I still play 4 times a week as well most weeks. I just don't really care about Saints anywhere near as much as I once did. If we lose/win/draw its a general apathy really. I've got loads of mates who feel similar, and the common theme is they all support also rans in the PL so it probably is to do with that and how boring being a mid table PL side fan is after a period of time.

Underlines the Premier League and how basically you have to have big money to succeed - exception is Leicester really which was an incredible achievement.

The Pompey fans I know and my colleague who goes to all the away game - want to the club to settle into the Championship and enjoy that experience in a very competitive league.

Not many actually want to be slugging it out at the bottom of the Premier League or aspiring to 6/8th.

People recognise Pompey are a Championship level club.

  10. I was born with the sound of the White Hart Lane faithful ringing in my ears.

That’s how close we lived to the ground, CFC.

  11. I think that, for a lot of people who post to this board, the football is simply an excuse for the banter.
