As the good book says, "Everything in moderation". It's so true, actually.

Not sure if you guys are aware of this, but even sugar-free drinks can be bad for you. When you drink your diet coke or whatever, your brain says 'Here comes the calories'! But of course, they don't appear, so the body reacts in one of 2 ways:

    1. It goes into 'starvation mode', ensuring that your next food consumption gets turned immediately into fat, or
    2. You get a craving for carbohydrate to satisfy the body's 'Here come the calories' expectation (ever noticed how people eat crisps/nuts/biscuits etc. with diet drinks?).

Just thought I'd complicate things further .....

Wow that would be interesting if true. I've never particularly rated him that highly but I know a lot of Leicester fans do so it would surprise me

I studied nutrition, albeit only briefly and more to do with my football rather than interest. But I learnt pretty much the same as what your nutritionist and doc is saying. And exrecise helps hugely even in small sessions which is different from what Jonny is saying also. Not saying anyone is right or wrong but it would help if there was only one answer <laugh>. Fortunately I have never had an issue with my weight but I dread the day I do

I did not say that exercise does not help, I wrote that for exercise to make a big difference it has to be more than most think. Anyone interested can look up how many calories are consumed by jogging for a half hour, hour etc. It just is not that much.

same as ellandback, about 400 calories at the gym - as thats one flapjack, you'd have to do a lot more to lose weight. IOn that sense Jonny is right.

But thats slightly missing the point (well, my point, anyway ;) ) which is you don't exercise to burn calories at the time, it changes your metabolism for the rest of the week (if you do enough) and anyway in my case its not just losing weight, its living longer thats the ultimate goal, and it helps with all sorts of other health indicators.

That's what I was told, eat smaller portions, less beer, exercise(45 min brisk walk) 4/5 days a week, cut out crisps and peanuts, I even had a gym plan made up and that was great until I got double vision and I haven't been back... :emoticon-0111-blush

No need to get snotty Jonny, I know what you said and I agree that if it works for each individual then great, but there are so many differing opinions from experts that it's still confusing.

I'm not saying my weight on here, I get enough slagging for being an Elvis/ rocknroll fan, but I will say that I lost 2 stone, but I've hit the wall at the moment, I'm not losing or gaining any weight...:emoticon-0106-cryin

<laugh> I knew you'd be sniffing around TC. The double vision was actually caused when I fell down the stairs and knocked myself out after drinking aprox 14 pints of cider...<cheers>

Yea I know what you said and I am saying that I was taught that even a small amount of exercise can make a big difference. Its not just about calories by the way, its about all different sort of things like metabolism change

I'm not saying I'm right or your wrong I'm just saying that there is so many differing opinions by people who claim to know what is their talking about
