I agree with all three of these statements. Norris wouldn't be in the first 11 IMO but would add some strength in depth. All of the links for RBs have seemed to quieten down
Boggers, They might need to raise the pitch by 50cm but I would have thought they could temporarily turf over the running track with modular pallets (like they use at the Stade de France). So that the entire base of the stadium was the cricket pitch. As London has Twickenham, Wembley & The Emirates we don't really need another football / rugby venue in London or England, but a decent Test Ground would leave a much greater legacy in my opinion. I am not a great lover of Cricket and prefer my Football, but you have to admit The Gabba in Aus is something special and I can't help thinking we are missing a blinding chance the have something similar in the UK. please log in to view this image
Morning all, Danny Murphy has just signed for Blackburn on a free. Would anyone liked to have seen him come in? I think he will do a good job in the championship, that being said I didnt see too much of him last year!
The gabba is an awesome stadium. Been there a few times, the MCG is much better and bigger though Never been to the Oval but it looks like a decent ground. I don't think England really do need another cricket ground in London but then again they certainly do not need another football ground. If I was a West Ham fan I wouldn't be happy about inheriting it though. You'd be miles away from the action
Harry Kewell defiantly was the biggest disappointment in the human being stakes at Leeds United. Going on TV and revealing he was joining Liverpool was disgraceful.
Morning all My heart is with Spain but I can see Portugal beating us. Spain appear to be wallowing in a sludge of technical ability that has no outlet. The passion seems to have gone, there is neither fire nor pace, and the players and manager seem to arrogantly believe that they just need to turn up, keep hold of the ball and the opportunities will present themselves. The achilles heel is definitely the lack of desire to get forward quickly and to use the width to stretch the opposition defence. Plus the centre of defence is suspect. re: Troy Deeney, he is likely to be out in 4 months time, so will probably play again before Joey Barton!
Cant see past the Germans winning the Euros. You can never write Spain off though, that would be foolish. But I agree with elmo, for all the time spain have on the ball they dont seem to have that punishing outball when needed to a pacey striker to tear onto it. They seem quite content to hold and pass around there comfort zone, the midfield. will still take a special performance by anyone to knock them out though.
Don't write off the Italians, they held Spain and a good England team, they convincingly controlled both games. Plus Balotelli could have scored a hat-trick against us, he will be a threat if he starts to get his aim in. The German's game plan involves beating teams on the break, the Italians will not give them any space to do this so they will need to play it through them. Italy Vs Portugal in the final is unlikely but not impossible as I agree with Elmo about Spain.
On cricket at the olympic stadium, not sure I see the need when we already have Lords & the Oval. There are already too many test grounds for the amount of tests that can actually be played in a season. So not a lot of point in having another one. Morover, cricket is different from football & rugby in that the pitch needs more attention. Millenium stadium is a case in point. They can roll it in & out, as the grass only groes a few inches below the surface. Fine for rugby, but not much good for cricket when the pitch gets heavily rolled all the time. Bucks, I fear you might be right.
Don't forget his quotes saying "the kop at elland road was good but not a patch on Galatasary" First class ****
As Doc stated, I don't think the negativity Smithy gets is unfair. I get the feeling Alan Smith believed he saved his beloved Leeds United. Most of our problems over the last 10 years were not the players faults, I don't even blame or think that Ridsdale was solely at fault as it was the money men behind the old PLC that did not know what they were doing and panicked. We all joined in and the writing was on the wall. We had 150 million pounds worth of assets and 80 million pounds worth of debt but we failed to keep our heads and the fear set in, we convinced players they had to go and sold them too cheaply. We did not take the chance to sack players like Johnson when he was arrested for drink driving etc. We then then went on a blame game that we are still on. So lets put it to bed for once and move on.
The difference between the Kop & Cim Bom is that our guys don't spend a week's wages on a game, get tooled up beforehand, & then look for trouble with opposition fans regardless. They are not nice. To put it into context, they make 'Wall fans look like angels by comparison. Not for nothing did they black out the tunnel before a game a few years ago & leave on a neon light saying "welcome to hell".
the matt mills deal looks like its fallen through due to finance problems could leeds united go back in for him?
Fair enough Simon. The "welcome to hell" episode was as a result of them playing our near neighbours from across the pennines in a champions league game. So perhaps it wasn't that bad.... & then again??? As I say, Cim Bom are not nice!!!
My thoughts exactly. Newcastle were in virtually an identical situation couple of seasons back when relegated but didn't panic like our lot. Competitively, they're in a better position than they've ever been. I get the feeling their fans wouldn't tolerate the **** we put up with. Still maybe well be up there with them shortly
They greeted us with the same banners Boggers I remember seeing Kewell go out on the pitch that night not looking like a bullied school boy. The fear in his eyes was unquestionable, he was a beaten man full of fear due to what happened to Chris & Kevin before hand, and not knowing if the game was going to go ahead or not. Yet he signs for them. Judas prick with no morales at all. Oh and his bug eyed mrs winds me up as well
