By the sound of things, Pearce, if it is him, will be a good signing. Would Lees play along side him or Bromby? Anyone who doubts why Bromby should be retained somewhere didn't see his long throw the other week. He can play either RB or CB. He has this long throw option. And he isn't too bad as a CB either. Certainly better than O'Dea.
He also made an amazing Leedsesque **** up other week back pass to keeper which didnt reach the keeper
Get em told Marko Boggers could be anyone in our back two next year but if Pearce was there I would be more confident. As for Bromby, I wouldnt mind hanging on to him for now but to be honest im indifferent.
I couldve sworn I saw a fellow Leeds poster say we should keep an awful defender because hes got a long throw?
YWBK, Bromby is certainly not an awful defender. IMHO he's better than O'Dea, better than AOB & at least as good as Bruce. He can also cover at RB. Definitely worth keeping, if not starting with, then certainly as CB on the bench.
Id get rid of every single one of our CBs tbh mate, change Tom Lees into a right back and buy 4 new CBs
On a different note while passing through bramley on a train I've just seen a warehouse that had been vandalised, having half the company name removed. With a little work and further vandalism, we could change "thomas br Leeds" into something a bit more humourous
Tom Lees is in no way a right back. Positioning's dodgy, can't get down the line quick enough (one good cross against the losers from Bradford doesn't make him Dani Alves) and doesn't understand overlapping and interplay with the winger at all. He's a junior partner in a centre-back pairing. Get a big, commanding lad next to him and he'll be fine. No need to bring in a replacement when we've got a perfectly good player there already, otherwise we'll be having more of a revolution than just a squad overhaul. Our squad now is average, but with four or five good players it will become promotion standard. But promotion also requires consistency, and that won't come from doing what Leicester and Boro did and totally changing the personnel. We need to supplement the players we've got with new faces, not the other way round. So that's what Brolin's upto these days.
This is what should have been done last summer when we had a significantly better squad. Now its been torn apart by bates greedy mits we've no option but to almost entirely rebuild
This is how I'd hope Warnock sees the blueprint for a good team next season: Becchio NEW - McCormack - Snodgrass Clayton - NEW White - Lees - NEW - NEW NEW Still decent subs available there as well in Lonergan (yes Neil, you can have a keeper on the bench), Pugh, Brown and Somma. Bates has definitely decimated the squad, but it can still come out all guns blazing if Warnock gets the right backing, luck and skill from the Bates and the contract-negotiations bagboy. Ambrose, Pearce/Mills/Bamba, Kenny, a right-back and a midfielder is definitely an optimistic dream which will never happen, but y'know, it should. And that's how we're meant to think as fans.
Imagine our current squad but instead of odea we had gorkks, howson Johnson and cork instead of pugh brown and vayrynen, and gradel so white could stay at left back. A couple of fullbacks to improve on conolly and cover white, get in Andy keogh on a permanent and you've got a side that would walk the league
I agree with Iqbal & others. Lees is a developing CB. To Kirwin or whoever it was comentating the other night had it right. No way is Lees a RB. For one thing, he simply isn't quick enough. No, pair him up with a CB who really knows what he is doing & let him teach Lees the ropes. AOB could have been that person for a while, but clearly not now if we're going for someone who the consensus on here seem to rate.
Hilarious.....I have just showed a lady around my next door neighbours flat (which they rent out). Her hubby is Nadir Belhadj (ex Portsmouth Lyon etc...) She is in Southampton studying. He is playing in Qatar at the moment but is looking to rejoin an English team. Would we want him at Leeds???
I'd have him in straight away. But if hes playing in Qatar im sure money is a huge motivator and I doubt we could strike a deal.
I see Andy O'Brien as the same sort of player as Lees, actually. He usually played alongside a more commanding CB. Wetherall at Bradford, Bramble/Woodgate at Newcastle and Knight/Cahill at Bolton. He's never been a leader, and I think Grayson made a mistake in thinking he was one. Made a tidy start admittedly, but never did the real dirty work like Sodje/Naylor/Kisnorbo have done in recent times when we've looked tighter at the back. That's the sort of player we need, and I'm sure Warnock knows that, having always had at least one of those figures in his previous teams. By the way, I'm interested to know why people think Lonergan has earnt his place next season if we have promotion ambitions. To my estimation, he's gone the same way Ankergren, Higgs and Schmeichel did, flapping and failing to do the basics right. One good showing on Tuesday doesn't change his second half of the season.
Lonergan is the best of the flappers though. Distribution needs sorting and confidence needs to improve and he will be fine that said I wouldnt mind replacing him
Maybe we are all getting too excited about Pearce, will Bates really spend the fee required to bring him in....
Key word there is confidence. How many of our keepers have gone the same way since we dropped out of the Premier League? Anyone would lose confidence playing behind the crap, inconsistent defences we've put out over these bleak years. Another think - if NM brings in Kenny, then he'll be his #1 choice. End of. Same for any other players he brings in. As for Lees, potential or not, NW won't want to take a chance on him when the target is promotion. He wants proven players. Think Lees can only expect to be an emergency CB at best.
