Has Clasie been anything other than an ordinary pl player? Vic had games where he absolutely bossed the midfield, pretty similar to romeu. I would like to see Romeu do it over a substantial period (obviously he needs this opportunity). Last year he was pretty average in the chances he did get. Pierre is all potential, morgan was in div2 at the same age. That's like saying josh sims is better than mane because sims was better at his age and has more potential. As of right now hojberg is no where near to what morgan was for you in the league.
I'm sorry, who do you support?...I'm a Saints season ticket holder and see every home game and these are my opinions based on what I witness. I did qualify my original comment by saying "potentially" better
Sorry old school, meant league 1 (i hope it was then he joined you!) I'll agree you did qualify it with potential, but i was pointing out that you can't compare like that and that's what made it a biased commentary (which isn't necessarily bad, of course you want to stick up for your team, i just thought i'd add a different point of view). I'm a chelsea fan but just a football fan in general. Obviously i do not watch the saints as much as yourselves but i don't think that would render my input as useless as people view the game in different ways. I guess we'll have to respectfully disagree with each other on Romeu and big vic. Still awaiting an answer on Clasie being no more than an average to solid PL player ala cork. and happy for you to say Hojberg is potentially better than Morgan but at this moment in time Morgan >>>> Hojberg anyway, i was just answering on behalf of one of the saints fans when he said you were viewing it all with some sort of saints glasses
I think it's indisputable that, this season, Romeu has surpassed Vic. He can play football, for a start...
I just think that Clasie offers more as a squad player than Corky did. Sorry I didn't mean to appear rude about not being a Saints fan, but I would take any criticism of Clasie on here with a pinch of salt, Saints fans LOVE to have a scapegoat!...
Romeu is rubbish and if I were manager of an Evo stik league team I wouldn't take him on a free. This is the official line to be used by all supporters when speaking to fans of other clubs until the bugger signs a new contract after which praise may be heaped upon him. As for Morgan. What are Everton thinking about? He's a complete donkey. He needs to come back to Southampton for a complete re-fit. (Again read the instruction above, fellow Saints)
That i can agree with. Romeu is actually good with the ball. If wanyama was the size of clasie, he wouldn't be a footballer....
In fairness, at this moment in time Hojbjerg is better than an utterly confidence crushed Morgan. Sadly!
Hjojberg is a lot closer to his peak than Morgan was at the same age. Nobody can know what will happen in the next few years. Doubt Saints would have signed him if they weren't confident of him improving though.
Agreed, although he wasn't at his best against Bournemouth. Looked a little jaded to me. If Morgan wanted to return could we honestly object? There's very little doubt that he's good enough.
I think Romeu is better than Vic, Cork is better than Clasie (and I'm a Clasie fan), and Morgan is better than Hojberg. In fact, Morgan (at least when we sold him anyway) is better than all of them. But things can change. Just look at Romeu.
Inreresting to compare these. Vic was a great wall but rarely offered little else. Romeu a much more proficient footballer and far less prone to sendings off so far. Clasie to this point hasn't shown enough and I was one of those who was sorry to see corky go. He's a good footballer and alonside Morgs his performances were solid. On balance not much to seperate them but I think Cork edges it by a nose. PEH isnt a patch on Morgan yet. Time will tell on that one. What I do know is that setting aside individual comparisons as a collective its not working anywhere near as effectively as it once did.
I think it was a confidence thing myself. The pressure to do something different and break that goal drought was affecting some more than others.
I think it is unfair to compare Morgan to Pierre. Morgan was with us for his formative years, playing all (?) his professional, competitive football in England. In his early years (note years, not months) he was far from being the top player, he later became, and that was whilst playing at a lower level, but years of being in the same team, with the same players, allowed him to develop into the talent we now remember. Pierre has been with us for approximately 6 months and clearly has talent, but he also still needs to adapt to a league where football is played at a frenetic pace. He is amongst new players, working under a manager that uses player rotation as his "go to" setting, so will still be building understanding, with his teammates, who vary from game to game. His biggest fault, IMO (other than not scoring goals ) is his sometimes taking too long to move the ball on, getting closed down, which may well be a symptom of the rotation policy, but I am sure, given time he will improve on that.
Great post Badger, although way too sensible. You should be demanding instant, perfection and success.
