Some rumours today that we are in for Cabaye, perhaps that opens the door for Morgan to Palace. I certainly hope not!

Heavily linked with joining us in the window, you lads obviously rate him highly, what can we expect to see from him if he arrives, and what are his strengths and weaknesses?

He'll either replace OR improve Barry (for the time he remains at Everton) imo and do a very good job at it.

He has gained legendary status with us, and after he left the legend has only grown. But after 2 seasons of very little football it's a gamble whether he can ever get back to the player he was.

Strengths; few players read the game better. As a deep lying midfielder he is always in the right place. Tackling, ball winning, distibution all excellent.

Weaknesses; gets forward at the right times but never shoots, hardly ever gets in the box.

Tbh, after all this time rotting at Man U, the best that could be expected of him now would be a **** Jack Cork <ok>

    Cheers mate.

I get the impression that Koeman wants to play a midfield 3, with one player holding and one either side slightly further forwards. Is that how he set you lads up? And if so, was it Wanyama or Schneiderlin who was the holding player?

Big Vic was the holding player. If you do sign him , you will be getting a classy all round midfield player who can control a match, IF, as Archers says, he can get his confidence levels back to what they were with us.

Koeman pretty much fits his system to the players he has ( he said as much, and the evidence showed it), rather than the other way round. Wanyama and Schnidders were a favoured midfield pair, our wardrobe doors if you like. Hence no room for Corky, who some of us were sorry to see go. Schneiderlin is a better footballer than either of that pair though in all honesty.

Always thought Koeman, given the chance, favoured a back 3 with wing backs, but he never persisted with that with us. He's pretty flexible tactics wise. A pragmatist rather than an idealist, much more of the Alex Ferguson rather than Guardiola school (though obviously not in either's class).

Snipers being linked with WBA on talkSport....that would be a real wrench to see him go to that appalling outfit when he should be coming back home to us instead especially if VVD leaves as we need someone to bring the ball out from defence to start the attack, something I always felt he excelled at back in the day

    Strengths - he's got a great accent

Weaknesses- he's **** and nowhere near good enough for a big club like Everton.

No need to thank me for saving you any hassle. Thanks

Pardon me for not being able to remember how he set up a side I very rarely watched play.

Well you should, all the other football watchers on Merseyside do and then they come back with their cheque book.

Ps. If you did, you'd also understand why we all knew Koeman joining Everton was not an upwards move in footballing terms.

Funny reading that, we now have replacements for all three that are potentially better...Romeu > Vic, Clasie > Cork and Pierre could be as good if not better than Morgan in a few years.

By which you obviously mean, the first half.

Our whole team's improving. The best is yet to come with this side, whatever happens in January.

Reading the thread from new I guffawed at this and realised I'd done it before. Truly a historic phrase. Where on earth did you get that from SD.?

Every time I read it I giggle. <laugh>

Romeu better than Vic. Both have different strengths and weaknesses at DM but to say Romeu is better than the other is a bit far fetched.

Clasie to Cork - people on this board have been hating on clasie for ages. Both solid type players with nothing special about them (although really should be clasie to morgan as those are the comparable positions).

Hojberg to Morgan based on potential. Surprised you haven't gone for the whole saint reserves CM squad who probably all show lots of talent :p.

Vic has NEVER played as well as Romeu has this season, he has been imperious.
Corky was a very good Championship player, but an ordinary PL one, as witnessed with him at Swansea.
Yes, Pierre is about potential, but he is already better than Morgan was at his age IMO.
