    Positives from tonight:

    We scored!! Twice!
Dummett and Good's first starts and looked reasonable, and another clean sheet. I'd like to see more of Dummett, swap Santon to the right and bring Dummett in at LB.
    Gosling looked useful
Despite all the negative comments here, we kept more possession and had more shots than Morecambe.
Although we didn't steamroller Morecambe, this doesn't mean anything as we never steamroller anyone in this competition. Remember vs Scunthorpe a couple of years ago when we made heavy work of that one and went on to finish 5th. We are reading too much into this game. I'm looking forward to Saturday, hope a win will do us good.

Spot on. A good game and a good result. The guys did well, the Ameobi's can be proud of themselves.

Watford and Norwich is an interesting tie, some of our regular visitors from out of town support both teams.

Did you not get the memo about negativity and anti pardew contributions only?

Do you reckon Posh will let you off the hook if they outplay you as royally as MK Dons did? They looked good the other night. I'm beginning to think all Paolos hot air has no substance. He should have been a decoratoring supervisor the way he oversaw that crack covering 10mins. It was like watching the final 10mins of 60min makeover.

    Shola and Sammy scupper Shrimps.

    Morecambe 0 Newcastle 2.

Not worth starting a new thread with this, but I thought the Ameobi's had a good game, both of them stood up to be counted and Sammi always looked dangerous when he went forward and was a bit unlucky with a couple of efforts. Pleased with Dummett's performance and Bigi looked very good.

All in all a good team performance and something to look forward to from some of the youngsters.

The Ameobi brothers both scored late goals to put Newcastle through to Round Three of the League Cup where they will entertain Leeds United, after a narrow victory at Morecambe on Wednesday evening.

Substitute Shola bagged his eighth League Cup goal with minutes remaining and brother Sammy danced his way through to finish the job in the last minute of added time.

But it could have been a very different story had Dan Gosling not cleared off the line twice in the first half and 'keeper Rob Elliot made some vital saves to keep the tie goalless.

I thought Gosling and Dummett looked quite promising, it'll be interesting to see how they progress.

HBA looked like he'd make things happen as soon as he came on. Overall, we've got to be happy with that performance.
