Of course he tells people. Keeping something private doesn't mean you keep it secret. I have no idea why he gives money to charity so wouldn't know if its for worthy reasons or not. As I said giving money amid a blaze of publicity could be just as unworthy as doing it in private. You taunted him about how much he gives to charity and I pointed out you made an assumption that was wrong. For me how worthy a person is depends upon how much they sacrifice by making the donation. A mother who goes without a meal to give £10 for charity is more worthy then a rich woman who gives £10 million from a bank account she never uses. I have no idea where on this scale either Charon or Assem Allam fit so don't ask me to say.
I've fallen for nothing, there is nothing to fall for; £7M is moving something very good forwards and that pleases me and I acknowledge the contribution of the donor. If I wish to discuss the character of Allam I will do it elsewhere, as there must be other matters drawn in which will only result in some mutt moving my posts.
Lance Armstrong raised millions for charity & helped establish the rather excellent http://www.livestrong.com/ foundation, of which many benefited & still do Though Armstrong cheated, he lied & bullied - though did not want us to die How much of it was true philanthropy & how much an 'image' to diffuse the 'truth' of the 'Armstrong lie' ... though typical of a certain personality types
Hats off to anyone or organisation who donates to good causes no matter how much it is. As to wether it should be done publicly or privately to me the more publicity the better because it may encourage others to donate. Unfortunately it's a sad sign of the times that organisation have to rely more and more on donations especially for things like medical research.
