Nah you're incorrect. If you remember, Pardew came on-board after we finished mid-table and there was stories of the deal being done in a Mike Ashley Casino. It was condemned by everyone, to the point I believe we actually sent a card to Hughton's house from Not606 members. He was originally proclaimed a puppet for the first 6 months or so, but given the circumstances surrounding previous incumbents and the whole cockney mafia bit, It's not exactly a surprise. Never heard a bad word said about him at a match though, even if we played **** until he bought Routledge.
You are playing into his hands by not checking your facts first. Hughton was sacked in December of the first season back in Premier League (2010-11) with team in 12th place. Ashley brought in Pardew, as someone who could progress the club to new heights. We finished 12th at the end of that season.
It's interesting to go back and read the articles from when he was sacked. Its quite easy to come to the conclusion that the club hasn't progressed at all in the last 8 years. The club is being run in the same manner. Yeh we might have got a 5th place finish under Pardew but that just happened to be the end of an up-cycle and the start of another down-cycle. The owner, and his lack of ambition for NUFC, which is manifested in every aspect of the club, is the one constant in the last 11 years and until he goes I can't see us getting out of that cycle. You can almost see the next down cycle starting. A lack of investment now leads to a manager who doesn't want to stay beyond the end of this season but gets us to a reasonable mid-table placing, which means Ashley thinks he can get by with a middling manager and limited investment, stockpiling money to spend if we look like being relegated, then desperately sacking the manager and splashing the cash to try and save us, and maybe just scraping by or getting relegated, then using any cash reserves we have to get straight back up. I guess its a business model but not a very forward looking one. I can't help thinking that if he took a risk now we could push on properly. If Leicester can do it so can we https://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/news/chris-hughton-sacked-newcastle-forced-3344724 . https://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/f...acking-was-always-on-Mike-Ashleys-agenda.html
The problem therein lies that if this is the business model (your right by the way) then over time the support for the club will dwindle away. And it definitely will over time if not already. It might be just me but as I look around there are less and less young folk around me than there ever has been. This is a concern for me!
That sounds slightly Adam Johnson-like but I think its common to most football clubs. It's probably more that the little twats would prefer to spend their time on Facebook than have a real life experience.
It's also not borne out by average attendances for League games which look like this over MA reign: Which again he probably looks at and treats as justification for his business model.
I'd say that shows the impact Rafa's had, again not his biggest fan out of all our supporters but bar the year Ashley took over and was downing pints in the stands we've never filled the stadium out as much as we have the last 2 seasons in his 10 year reign, one of those in the Championship...even the year after we finished 5th was a lower average attendance than the last 2 years! Imagine what happens if we finish bottom half/relegation struggle (I dare not think about worse) and Rafa leaves, end up with a forward line of Rondon, Gayle, Joselu and we get someone like Allerdyce/Pardew back in.
Nah I'm correct. I do remember all that but there were a number on here who said it was correct to move on from him due to the drab football. Some just never seemed that enamoured with him. I couldn't get my head round it at the time. There was some drab stuff but he also gave us that 5-1 among others. We were a bit up and down but overall for a promoted side were making steady process. He was quickly forgotten too I suppose because then Cabaye came in we finished 5th and all was rosy for 12 months.
If anything Pardew had it far harder and stuck out 5 years of austerity - yes we spent a bit that first summer but we'd sold Carroll to enable it. Pardew was never relegated and in his full seasons finished 5th, 16th, 10th and won a premier league manager of the year award. He maintained form in the season he joined, we were in 12th and finished 12th. He left us in 10th the season he left. Rafa isn't quite there yet.
Yeah I'm pretty sure you're just making that up. Feel free to back up your claims with some threads, or else it could just be filed as another #pouchyfact
