I think the moral of the story is that we all have different tastes..I thought Morcambe and Wise were brilliant.. I hated Bernard Manning and Chubby Brown, but I'm sure there are some people on here who actually found them funny.
I also loved Steptoe and Son and Billy Connelly, but found Lenny Henry about as funny as a blister on my knob. Out of the present crop, i really can't stand Alan Carr.

See for me, nobody gets anywhere near Ricky Gervais for making me laugh, it just boils down to sense of humour, the way you're wired up as a person. I could sit and watch some of the so called 'classics' for hours and all they do is make me cringe at how desperate they're being.

A lot of credit is due to the pioneers of comedy in the entertainment industry, but it doesn't mean you have to find them funny.

Somebody who always gets me is Sean Lock, I'm not even sure why, he just has a way of saying things that gets me laughing.

I agree with every word of that, although I've not watched much of Morcambe and Wise since I was a kid.

Presently the one who really ****ing irritates me is Noel Fielding, I hate his stupid face.

Kevin Bridges is good, very good in fact. He sets the bar in my opinion in the stand up world.

He makes you sick to look at but he's a very intelligent funny man. Loved Extras, it was genius.

It's funny reading everybody arguing like comedy requires football team like loyalty. Everyone mentioned all have had their moments when they've cracked me up. I watch a **** load of comedy. Can't get enough and I try not to discriminate. I've got an eclectic comedy tastes.

Don't like Kevin Bridges. Lee Mack takes the stand up crown for me at the moment. He's had it a while too for me like

People get genuinely offended if you like somebody that they don't, such as Ricky Gervais... If nobody liked him he'd be on the dole not selling out world tours and a permanent fixture in the Hollywood A List.

At the same time I understand people do find Mighty Boosh funny, each to their own.

I used to go to the comedy store a lot, Alan Carr was just making his way into the scene, he was hilarious then he sold out a couple of years later and now I find him annoying.

Many comedians will find a hook and stick with it.

Loved Dick Emery for his visual gags, but not as much as Dave Allan.. I couldn't get away with Russ Abbot..

    Aye, very true.
Never really liked Bernard Manning as a comedian but I've been in his company & he's a very nice man.
His stage act was just that, an act.
As far as stand up go's I love Billy Connelly. Over 30 years in the business & continually comes up with fresh material.
Peter Kay is good & I can relate to a lot of his stuff.
That Iranian guy Omid Djalili is funny as ****.
    Also like,
    Bill Baily
    Danny Bhoy
    Rob Brydon
    Hugh Dennis
    Rhod Gilbert
    Lee Hurst
    Sean Lock
    Lee Mack
    Jason Manford
Like you say, different strokes & all that.

It's not even his best work imo. Extras is spot on and the Carl Pilkington programs shows his eye for comedy production.

I love live at the Apollo but it's hit & miss, some you like, some you don't.

I find him a very boring man who I'd love to kick in the Niagra's.

Imagine if you could pick your own 3 every time it was on. It would be the best show ever.

Like Billy said it's hit and miss fella. You've got a top comic hosting, with a mid level guest and a newcomer guest. You do get some really funny newcomers who disappear and never make it.

There's a massive difference . . . . Ben Elton is ridiculously, and boringly, unfunny, but his productions, like Slackbladder, are, generally, brilliant <cheers>
