My Sources, who are flesh and blood, say Monterro was only considered for loan, simply to keep him playing. They say he is valued asset whose talents just dont fit in with our current systems and tactics. They go on to say that there is not even a thought of selling him. Monterro himself apparently said he wanted to stay here and so the loan move, which was just a thought to start with, is now a definate non starter.

Another thing I was told, because I was whinging about Fernandez, surprise, surprise, is that the role of the players in whole team has drastically changed over the last six weeks. The biggest changes made have been to our defenders. CB's have much bigger role under Guidolin and are expected on occasion to take the ball up high, over halfway and beyond, covered by one of our two DM's.

As well as this new attacking freedom they are expected to do their own role as well as cover our FB's. They also have been told to push on and high and as often as posssible. They have always done this but it was always one up, one back. Now both FB's are encourages to push forward together to try to create an overload. This style suites Rangel but not Taylor, but at least he has been trying to push up and take on defenders on the outside. This is why we see Naughton comming on for Taylor as he is more adept in attack, but not as good in defense. Between them we have one hell of a FB.

So, to recap the huge changes we've had to our defense, FB's push forward together, DM's drops back between our CB's, who in turn 'stretch' wide to make a three man backline.

Williams is coping admirablly, so is Rangel and to a lesser extent Taylor, but Fernandez isn't coping at all and is often stuck between his old role and his new one and due to this is woefuly out of position regularly as well as out of sorts.

So many players have new roles under Guidolin, CB's expected to push forward and defend out wide, FB pushing up to take on the opposition like wingers and DM's changing into CB's and then back, throughout the game, its no wonder we look a little edgy these days.

Another thing I was told is that Guidolin, if he were here all season, would implement a 3-6-1 formation (which was picked up by Wales online recently). That's how he wants us to play but doesn't have the time to coach it so he has massively tweaked (completely overhauled) our old styles, tactics and formations to compensate and to survive the season. In his opinion if he didn't we'd be relegated come May, simple as that.

Don't shoot the messenger guys, just passing it on <ok>

For me the only one at the back that looks adrift is Fernadez, as for Taylor he has been good in my view, though not brilliant at crossing into the box.

We now need to treat every game as a Cup Final, starting with Spurs, we have the ability to beat the top teams, and we need to start with Spurs, we need a do or die attitude from our players, and they must build momentum if we are to survive, as we have the toughest run in of the bottom teams....... <ok>

All the old school players have been trying to do their job that they have done since they were bought and it is not working...WHY ? Simply because the relative new players that the board brought in do not fit in and the system we try to play has missing links playing a different system. Its slow with no shape with a lot of missing ways that we did well.. Gone are the wingers who would scream past players left or right, Fast triangle passing going forward and more shots on goal, Even Fab is not as good this season as he as started to hoof the ball up field more and that is not what our older players are use too....We have always started from the back with the ball and worked our way up the field keeping the ball off the opposition...We cant do that today because the newish players cant keep up with the pace.....There is one player however that did show great potential and that is Monterio as he did show pace and what have we done, We never played him ...

Couldn't disagree more Dai. We have the wingers in Barrow, Monty, Emnes can run too, Routs is still no slouch and we have Leon, Cork, Ki and Gylfi who can pass short, quickly and in triangles. The trouble is, Monk wasn't using them and instead preferred to use Jonjo every game. Our best line up, imo, to get back to what we are capable of with this side, shouldn't include Gomis, and shouldn't include Ayew, who for me, is the main reason we have struggled this season, as he doesn't fit into any of our systems, unless he's up front, and even then, he's too lightweight.
For us to stay up, Ayew and Gomis need to be bit part players for the rest of the season and then sold.
Barrow and either Monty/Routs need to start every game and revert back to our 4-5-1 system with either Cork or Leon to partner Ki in midfield with Gylfi just behind Palo.
I'd also like to see us start with Amat alongside Ash at the back.

Point us all to the validated report that has conviced you that borough, all of a sudden, changed their minds and want to buy Monterro.

Also, while your digging that one up Dai, would you mind calling any of your contacts in Hughes office to ask them to advise borough that the transfer window closed 18 days ago (and counting)

In truth the only club that has any influance over our transfers is us, Swansea City and no other club. We sell who we want, when we want. Just like Shelvey, within days of his final tantrum both he and his glittering international career were gone, just like that

Apparently we are after Ghana CB Jonathan Mensah on the free . Signed with Udinese under Guido and sent out right away on loan and sold on within a year . Like Paloschi , this might be one Guido was keeping an eye on as the player matured .
On top of the fact that Williams has hinted a bit about looking about in the summer , I think this is a possibility if we manage to scrape through . Could also be a speedy CB who might become part of a 3 man defence .....

Good. We need to be aiming a hell of a lot higher than that.
