I'm really worried that we'll lose Bony and Michu close season. We'll get a decent amount of money for them of course but I just get the feeling we'll not spend it appropriately - by that I mean we'll not spend 12 million on a player to replace Bony, it'll be more 5 or 6 if lucky.
that goes without saying,Jinx will never spend huge amounts of money on a single player but i think we will have a healthy budget all the same, Michu i think will still be with us next season but as for bony then there are a number of clubs interested in him and should he have a good world cup then it will be hard to keep him. It depends on how water tight his contract is and whether the club will let him leave after one season at any price...My personal thinking is we should not stop him if the price is right as i cant stand any club holding on to a payer or manager if it is an upward move..
What the point of having a "healthy budget " without having a competitive team on the pitch .I can would imagine that when the club bought Bony they already had an eye on the future when selling him on ,which they will without doubt ,whether we'll see his like again is debatable .
Well matt it has served us well in the past to be sensible on how much you spend on a single player, It has worked out great for us with bony but it's a risky business as we have seen at other clubs that you can get your fingers burnt going down that route. We should return to our own sensible budget now and increase by a little each year we are in the premiership and this season we should not pay more than between £5-£8 million for a single player. What you have to realize is the more you spend buying a player the more they will expect their wages to be and for a small club like ours then that could lead to financial ruin as we have seen at other clubs plus the friction it can cause in the dressing room when one player gets a vast more than his team mates for doing the same job. We should keep our wage structure close as it works so much better.
Personally this is what we should be doing. Buying players with bags of potential that are already showing that they are quality, and look to improve and sell them on for higher fees to bigger clubs by giving them opportunities in the PL.
I agree that we should look for players in the 5-8 million bracket Dai, however to stay in the PL, we need a 15+ goal machine up front and you don't find them cheap, bar the odd occasion a la Michu.
Michu was an exception and like others only came here for the Laudrup factor. Unlikely to happen again and I hope Jenkins doesn't think we can make a habit of it because it won't happen. Spend wisely definitely, but for a front man who can deliver at this level the general rule is that you have to splash out.
Not going for top-drawer quality players will leave Swansea struggling against relegation again. You can't strengthen a premier league squad with loanees and surplus players from the championship league; not in the long run...
Agree, we cannot also buy players whose clubs are fighting relegation in other countries. Bar Bony and Jonjo at times, the players bought last summer were no better than the players we already had. We need to find players that are better than the ones we have. That's the only way the team will improve.
Parochial decision by a group of people that have risen above their competence. It's the lazy choice not necessarily the best choice. It avoids having to search. It avoids having to explain to candidates the Laudrup situation as every candidate with half a brain would conduct due diligence a ask difficult questions at interview. It avoids the discomfort of dealing with Monk's removal and possible exit from the Club as a new manager may also have sane reservations of him as a coach as Laudrup seems to have had. Forget the name for a moment, There isn't a lower league club that would hire somebody like Monk with his "credentials" to be manager. I will recompile my team performance analysis on Monday night and publish. This is no longer about Monk, never really was, it is about executive competence.
Canas was also an improvement, Pozuelo has a huge potential, as does Amat, and both played an important role during the injury-nightmare in the autumn/winter. Neither of those two are (yet) good enough to be considered regular starters. Canas vs Britton is a matter of philosophy.... (Or historical romanticism).
Sorry Mikra, but Leon is streets ahead of Canas every day of the week. As for Amat and Poz, the key word as you use is potential. We can't afford to have to many players with potential.
Well they appointed Monk to keep us up and he's well on his way to ensuring our survival, thus they made the correct decision from their point of view.
That's why some of us are starting to doubt their professionalism. Because Monk has done no different than his predecessor, who they sacked. So if that's the case, his results on the pitch were never a problem. Else Monk's would be just as suspect.
this is a typical response from a wayward fan that has no inkling about our club whatsoever.. Now wheres my coat it's time to be a real fan
I was a season ticket holder 40 years ago. Attending a match now requires an 8000 mile round trip and $2000 minimum - which I do 2 to 3 tines a season.. I'm surprised you can figure out your way up Neath Road. You do what you always do when you have nothing of value to offer - attack the person - lazy response by an intellectually lazy person. This decision is in the short term best interest of the Noard - not the Club. I challenge anybody to rebut that statement with a cogent arguement.
