Monk's after the Arsenal job.

In case you are in any doubt what 7th in the Championship means to Mr Monk, he wrote this in his autobiography -

'“Looking back now,” says Garry, “I'm glad we didn't get into the play-offs with Paulo, as he did not deserve to be the one to take us to the Premiership. He had not earned that right... In terms of the progression Swansea City had made under Kenny Jackett and then Roberto, I saw Paulo's time in charge as a wasted season. Yes, we finished seventh, which was one place higher than the previous season, but I put that achievement down to the attitude of the players rather than anything Paulo Sousa gave us.”

For the record Sousa was starved of transfers and taught the Swans how to defend (we had no strikers so he had to) including the woeful Garry Monk.
Our defence led by Monk went into melt down in the final few games and many believe the season was deliberately undermined by a small group of players.

Watching Sky Sports just moments ago, they are saying Monk feels the club were only looking to keep him for a year.

Either someone is telling porkies or twisting the truth.

Just my opinion... I would imagine Radz wanted to use the 12 month option and see how things went before sitting down and sorting out a longer contract, Monk wanted that three year one and big wage increase right from the start
Sounds like a plan, only Radz stated that he DID offer a 3 year contract ...

Shocking news from GM. We were keen to do 3 years deal.We never receive any request from him and his agent. No regrets, we did our best [HASHTAG]#mot[/HASHTAG]

Someone's lying!

He didn't actually say they offered him one WJ. Says we were keen to do a three year deal. I listened to rads interview last night and it backs this up. He basically said Monk would be signing for extra year on Friday to give them time to get o know each other but hoped down the line to make it a three year one

Yes he has - and had to re-issue it to the press as Leeds United would not put it on their website

Garry Monk's statement in full

It is with huge disappointment that my time at Leeds United has come to an end.

My intention was always to remain at Leeds and I saw myself at this fantastic club for many years to come. However, ultimately no agreement could be reached.

After discussions with the new owner, we have unfortunately been unable to agree a suitable way for us to all move forward together.

Working at such a huge and historic club as Leeds United has been a true honour and myself and staff put our all into what was an excellent season.

It was a campaign in which we were set the objective of improving things across the board on the field, in the wake of what have been a difficult few years for the club.

I believe that we managed not only to considerably improve our results, but I would also like to think we gave the loyal Leeds United fans and the city of Leeds a team and a club of which they can once again feel proud.

Hopefully and I'm sure that the many foundations we have put in place here can be built upon and it's my desire to see this amazing club back in the Premier League, where it belongs.

I would like to thank all of the players, who have been a real privilege to work with every day. They are on the right track to become very successful and boast the potential to be top players for this club, of that I have no doubt.

I'd like to thank all the staff at the club. First and foremost, my first-team staff, I am very grateful for the hard work and commitment you put in to last season.

I also wish to thank the staff at the Academy, Thorp Arch, Elland Road and the matchday personnel at the stadium, who have all made myself and my family feel most welcome.

I'd like to thank both Massimo Cellino and Andrea Radrizzani. Particular thanks go to Massimo, who helped bring me and my staff to this tremendous football club. I would also like to wish Andrea good luck and success during his tenure as the Leeds United owner.

Last but most definitely not least, I'd like to give my thanks and express my appreciation to all the supporters. You are amazingly loyal and passionate. The support you have offered me makes me feel immensely proud.

I will always cherish those amazing atmospheres you created at Elland Road last season and the complete takeovers of opposition grounds, with thousands of you travelling to every game. Your unbelievable support is deserving of a place amongst the elite and belongs in the Premier League.

Finally, I'd like to wish Leeds United and everyone associated with the club a very successful future.
Thanks for that, TC.

The statement says nothing by way of reasonable reason for leaving, though.

Key phrase for me is: However, ultimately no agreement could be reached.

Ultimately? Don't think he knows the meaning of the word. Couple of meetings is not ultimately. He went through the motions IMO. He was leaving before these meetings took place. Can think of no other explanation.

To be fair, thinking back, his post match interviews in recent weeks, wouldn't inspire confidence that he intended staying. He always skirted away from talk of his contract

There are a lot of clubs without managers at the moment. Boro we're all set to appoint Pearson, they have already had two meetings with him but now Monk is favourite to join.

I believe Pearson would be a great appointment, plenty of experience in this division, a no nonsense guy and what an incentive for him if he were to join us after a snub from Boro, the team Monk left.

A big first test for Radz now, not so much if he gets it right first time, more a test with how quickly he acts and will we at least have someone respectable and not another Hockaday.

i think he lost the dressing room a long ways back I think he has known he was leaving as far back as January <ok>

That would make sense of why we capitulated at the end of the season mate

without a doubt m8ty <ok>( risk of getting Glorys wrath) I can only speak of games I saw on the box but you never came across to me as a side with much unity there was no guile no fight certainly not playing like a side fighting for promotion <ok>

I think he lost it just my opinion <ok>

Although you lot will disagree, I don't think your season was as successful as you make out.
Look at what Monk was given to work with compared to his predecessors.

Green
Bartley
Jansson
Bridcut on a perm
Hernandez
Roofe
Antonsson
O'Kane
Sacko
Ayling
Pedraza
Grimes
Barrow

Cellino threw the kitchen sink at it last season hence the refund offer.
Look at who Reading, Huddersfield and Fulham bought in as a comparison.
When you think at how far ahead of 7th you were for most of the season, that squad should have been challenging for top 2 and to fail to reach the playoffs WAS NOT a good season imo!!

So what will you lot settle for next season

also to be honest you cant blame Rad for getting rid
look at what he saw since walking in the door
you were right up there looking at possible auto and all he witnessed was a collapse <ok>

Monk's statement is contrived and irrelevant to me.

Pocket over heart but you have to be in love to begin with so clearly we are better off without him.

Feel sorry for the players...told all season it's all about the group but obviously lied to and betrayed.

No credibility for Monk going forward now as he didn't see his contract out.

Wish Cellino was still in charge as he would have stuck him in the garden for a year !

I did a job for a customer on Tuesday, he was a Sunderland supporter and he told me then the fans were all in agreement that they would like a manager like Garry Monk and he felt they had a good chance of getting him.

I don't think Radz is that bothered after the statement given out earlier, Radz felt we dropped away and we didn't have a winning mentality, I believe Radz didn't want to do EVERYTHING to secure Monk and I believe Monk probably had a few offers from the likes of Sunderland to consider.

I'm not bothered that he has gone, I didn't rate him as much as many others on here, new owner, new directors, new manager and a few new players, it's not the end of the world, you see, Monk won't come to anything no matter what club he joins, Clotet is probably the better coach of the two.

A statement said: "While we are deeply saddened by Garry's decision, there is no individual bigger than our club."

What makes you think Clotet will stay and takeover?

Statement clearly written by a lawyer or PR man. Monk can't even say long sentences like that. You listened to his interviews? :D
