Monk has been in charge for 12 months now, plenty of time to put his slant on things. Don't really care about the comings or goings of last year I'm basing my opinion on his managerial performance over the last twelve months. Correct me if I'm wrong but surely when a manager takes over you should, over a period of time see improvement as he gets his views and footballing philosophy across. What we have, is a reversal of this, results are now worst our football style has gone, where are the 42 consecutive passes we were used to over recent seasons, we can hardly string 3 passes together now. I believe Monk has now lost the dressing room and is struggling badly on both tactical awareness and team selection. Its not a case of will he go but when, my guess is at the end of this season, but another disaster Sunday may see him forced out earlier.

No issue with your points - all valid. But, let me ask, do you really think the Board have it in them to act that decisively at this point, with Monk.

In all honesty no I don't think they'll act. It will be difficult for them having put so much faith in him. I hope Monk turns it around nothing would give me greater pleasure. The board may be forced to act if the situation deteriorates over the coming few weeks. Unfortunately for Monk out of our next 3 games 2 of them should be winnable (sunderland & West Brom) but he now has to get goals minus Bony and Siggy a tough task. In spite of my pessimism I feel we could actually get a result against Southampton this Sunday.

Ronald has experience. I agree with the sentiment that the PL is not the place to gain your first stripes as a manager, but HJ appointed him and if you get a job you're not ready for, it's not your fault for applying.
If Monk (and ultimately Swansea City) fail, a portion of the blame has to go to HJ for appointing him.

Could Ki be the key to our defensive frailties under Monk. Speaking ahead of the Asia Cup Final,

'South Korea maintained their perfect defensive record at the tournament on Monday, notching their fifth consecutive clean sheet against Iraq.

"They [the defenders] really work hard and they really concentrate [on] every single ball, so that's why we didn't concede any goals," Ki said.

"Defensively we are very organised and we scored the first goal early in the first half, so the game went a little bit easier than we expected.

"It's not easy to not concede goals in five games in this tournament but we want to keep the clean sheet in the final."

Or is that just common sense?

Mate without Ki our midfield has looked rudderless. He will obviously make an impression when he returns. I don't think we realised how important he was to our side until he wasnt here and our frailties showed through. Can't wait to have him back, still think we need another big strong central midfielder to compliment him even more.

Just think how good he could be if we do get a DCM to alliw Ki to concentrate more on dictating game play.

Good point. The thing that worries me is we're only a few players short of a very capable team but can Monk sort out the defence and get us passing through midfield again and utilising the wings properly? I'm not sure he can. It's not just a case of him suddenly becoming tactically aware either, there are seemingly motivational and organisational issues to address also.

I've given him until the end of the season before making final judgement but time's running out fast now. There's still a glimmer of hope that things can be turned around but realistically I'm not holding my breath.

I just hope that it will not be to late. Nobody wanted him to fail as he is our manager but, as you say there are a lot issues raising their heads which he seems incapable of sorting out and to be fair to most fans they were the issues pointed out when he first took over. I don't know whether we can wait to long before making a desicion if the results and performances continue in the same way as they have been for the last month or so. I worry he just doesnt have the experience to put these issues right.

We've needed one for 2 years, I doubt we'll get one now.
The latest player we've been linked to, Franck Tabanou, appears to be an utility left sided player! A left sided midfield player who has occasionally played left wing but has mostly covered left back. I hope this is a foil to twist arms of a proper left back and a better one than Taylor too.
As we didn't need a large squad this season (no Europa Cup games) imo we should have brought in quality over quantity - too many prospects and development players - but even they should be getting regular game time 1 at a time. Also, none of our new players are leaders on the pitch, I expected Fernandez to be more proactive especially when Ash isn't playing. I know Rangel was captain in the FA Cup game and it was his job but it was good to see a player put pressure on the ref over unpunished challenges and wrong calls - something we seldom see from Ashley.

Indeed. It's looking like an almighty gamble by the board as things stand now, especially for next season if GM remains the boss.

Good point. It makes you wonder what the thinking is between GM and the board. If the deficiencies appear obvious to most fans then it's worrying that the people running the club can't see it. Maybe that's too simplistic a view, it's obviously a hard job just standing still in the PL, never mind advancing for a club of our stature. Getting the right players isn't that simple, even if you know who you want. But still, it makes you wonder.

when was the last time we did this? Our wingers never have a give-and-go, never go to the by-line (cos they can't cross) and always play backwards

Exactly. Even when Ben and Rangel used to overlap we still couldn't cross the ball very well. Just another issue which never gets addressed. At least we have Monty, he'll have a go by himself!
