Yes. I would never underestimate Newcastle but the loss of Carroll and now their Captain would have to be a bit of a blow.
Now that Nolan has left it's more of a blow, prior to him leaving they'd only lost Carroll so it's a bit premature of Nolan to view them as a club in danger but yeah he'll maybe be in the PL for longer later on. It's the giving up on the chance to play for England that's the surprise. He's got the money to retire comfortably and he's not really struck me at any time as being the greedy/premadonna type that would sacrifice even a slim of chance of achieving what he's always worked hard for just to eek out a few more years when he doesn't need to. Back when we were in the 4th division I could understand someone dropping from a small club in the division above for money because they're not made for life at that level and the money is important.
