Sound Investment 4/6 Best Boy Barney 11/4

The book suggests the Nicholls horse has a bit to find on a line through Hells Spirit, would Best Boy Barney be 4/6 if its was Nicholls and Walsh?

Have to be on the Jeremy Scott runner at the prices.

Another one I like the look of is Aubrietia in the 4.50 Wolves. A slow start last time may have cost the race but was only 2 lengths in 6 place behind Hot Sugar who did not have a good run last week. Think Wolves has been favouring front runners of late so a low draw and better start I can see Aubrietia going close. Only concern is the headgear is off today but she has a good looking record with it on.

Plenty of value still left in the market with the likes of:

Captain Chris 25/1 (2011 Arkle winner whose Cheltenham record reads 121P4 - the P4 being from last season when he just wasn't right IMHO. Looked right back to his best in the King George)
Last Instalment 33/1 (looked the best staying novice chaser in Ireland last season and if he comes back with a bang later this month those odds will tumble)

Can't see any value in SDC price - bookies taking the piss still at 6/1 and I can't imagine old boy Pricewise putting him up

Ah scratch that - just seen on the Racing Post website that Last Instalment has met with another setback and is out for the season. Crying shame.

Oddy, I can't be having Captain Chris over an extended trip after seeing him worn down around Kempton over 3 miles, whilst I don't think there is massive value in SDC, I do think he will be shorter in the run up to the race, especially if he runs again and jumps better in something like the Irish Hen.

I have a massive grumble from the weekend brewing, I can see a rant on the blog soon

I spent quite a bit of time yesterday re-watching Williams Wishes victory at Sandown on Saturday. The major talking point of the race being the fact that he was down on his nose at the second last but still got up to win in most convincing fashion off an official rating of 144. I'll be very interested to see what the handicapper does with his rating now as I think he won very, very cosily indeed and he must surely step up to graded class now? If you watch Saturday's race closely, you'll see Paul Moloney take a very strong pull after the pond fence, and again going to the 2nd last, as the horse was tanking along so strongly. I think this might well have unsettled the horse's rhythm coming to the 2nd last, resulting in a somewhat sketchy jump and the almost-catastrophic landing. If that had not happened, he would surely have won 10 or 15 lengths. He had previously run all over Champion Court (admittedly getting lumps of weight) and here toyed with a decent yardstick in Domtaline. I'd look at him now being somewhere around the 155-160 mark but with a big, bold P next to him because I don't believe he has been anywhere near emptying out. There was talk of him going to the Victor Chandler next to tackle the mighty Sprinter Sacre, and whilst I don't think there is a horse in training who can beat Sprinter Sacre, I do think there may be some e/w value in William's Wishes in what is looking an increasingly 1-sided Champion Chase. Currently only Paddy Power quote him, at 20-1, for the Cheltenham showpiece.

Good morning all, I trust we are all good today... Not a lot to go at today but at least it helps to pass the day watching what we do have on view...

Taunton...
1.10 - Sound Investment, 8/13
2.40 - Emperors Choice, 2/1
2.10 - Gof Of The Kop, 4/1
2.40 - Dare Me, 5/2
3.10 - Tornado Milan, 5/1
3.40 - Bennys Mist, 6/4
4.10 - Jupiter Rex, 4/6

No bets and nowt at longish odds either... But these are the most likely to go in... Good luck if you do play today...<ok>

I might even look at the AW cards now and cast my expert eye over them...<whistle><laugh>

A bit of a losing spell with 5 consecutive for AppraiseForm I'm hoping SPARK OF GENIUS 2.20 Wolverhampton can stop the rot today.

Good luck to all.

Well that's disappointing, came here hoping to have my confidence in my two selections boosted by tips from the various guru's on here, but no, you have all opposed me! :emoticon-0106-cryin Nevermind, I will fool hardily carry on with my selections regardless.

Lucky 15 consisting of:

Taunton - 1.10 - Best Boy Barney (MOG's pick)
Taunton 3.10 - Scoter Fontaine
Taunton 3.40 - Foxesbow
Wolv 2.20 - The Appraise pick Spark of Genius (surely appraise is due a win!)

Best Boy Barney 3rd again then. Eligible for handicaps now though so it will be interesting to see what sort of mark he gets.

Oddy, your William’s Wishes is 45/1 to win and 7/1 to place re the Champion Chase on Betfair. I’m still waiting for a price on old boy Kumbleshwar in the latter market. WW’s likely ratings rise will probably mean they will have to go for the Champion Chase now unless, of course, they decide instead to carry a welter burden in Mr Henderson’s race.
