So Wonderful manages to find one too good yet again. 2nd to a filly coming in after two efforts of 70 on Racing Post figures. Not much that Aidan can try now after having blinkers on today. I reckon if it were a colt we were dealing with the Cobbler's Awls would be whipped off.
The other half of the double looked to have it won from a positive ride. It really looked like she had it in the bag but perhaps she was ridden as if it were a 6F race and her early effort to get a good position seemed to pay in the final furlong and the cavalry caught up. The top weight swooped to win it and Queens Course was beaten half a length and a neck into third after seeming to have had the race won. She ended up 4/1 and it was a good run with the favourite unplaced. The thinking coming in from some parts was that the stiffer track at Haydock might help today but if anything a drop to 6F looked a more likely next step.
It was a day where several horses were very well backed into short enough odds and most of them disappointed. Rival 11/10, Solent Gateway 5/4, Dreamweaver 8/11,Frenetic Evs, Quickstep Lady 4/11, La Dragontea Evs, Taawfan 10/11, all went down the pan with So Wonderful and Choice and Chance but perhaps worst of all was Epsom Derby 3rd Amhran Na Bhiffian getting beaten in a maiden race at odds of 8/15.
Amhran Na Bhiffian was reported to be lame post race and it was a race where he was rated 31 lbs ahead of the winner on RPR so the obvious conclusion is that he ran well below his form. He did manage to finish 7 lengths in front of the third, who was 57 rated coming in, so it'snot as if he totally broke down. The Harrington horse in that maiden was rated 81 on official figures but has run like a drain and finished behind a 150/1 shot rated 51 on RPR coming in.
