Supplicant 3.25 Pontefract 5/1 Nap

I really like the look of Richard Faheys Supplicant in this 6 furlong sprint, he was a G2 winner at 2 but things didn't quite go to plan for him as a 3 year old, and as a result he has slipped right down the handicap. There where some positives towards the back end of the season when he was 2nd by a head on his penultimate start behind Spinatrix who went on to win again NTO. Supplicant ran massively below par on his final start a week later behind Spinatrix again, though I'm prepared to forgive him that in what was his 8th run of the season. He goes again off 95 tomorrow, and has a great draw in 2, and with the usual progression from 3 to 4 with sprinters he should be very well handicapped off 95. He is also no stranger to winning first time up, having done that on his debut as a 2 year old. Paul Hanagan is in the saddle aswell which is a good jockey booking.

The favourite in the race is Lexington Abbey who finished 4th of 21 in a 0-95 off 89 LTO. He has been put up a pound and is going up in class as this ones a 0-100, and he doesn't have a great draw in 8, so I think theres enough reason to oppose him. The only other horse of note in my opinion is the bottom weight Yeeoow off 84 who's drawn 1. At his best he was rated in the 90s, but has been running on the all weather throughout the winter, so a return to turf could see him refind some of his old form, and his form certainly suggests he is better on the turf than the AW. But he hasn't won for 20+ runs so it's hard to give him a chance even off what looks a good mark. :biggrin:

NOBLE DEED 25-1 Windsor 6;25 is a course and distance winner. Following three wins early in his career he was left racing off a mark a bit too high for his ability. He has however slowly fallen down the ratings to the point where he is 2lb below his last winning mark over todays trip on good to firm at Newcastle. He is dropped a grade also from his latest AW run and has his easiest task for some time. The yard landed a nice punt here last week and this one is very capable of following up that success.

HERECOMESARTHUR 7-1 Hexham 3:10
This one has had three fairly uninspiring runs with one-paced appearing generally in the commentarys. Things could be different this time now though as he now enters handicap company and for good measure a tongue tie is added and most strikingly Dougie Costello is retained for the first time. I am quite confident that step up in trip to 2m 4f will bring about a much bolder showing.

Tuscan Gold 3.50 Pontefract 6/1 NB

He showed some improved form LTO for his new yard, on good to soft going, which wasn't ideal for him, finishing 2nd behind Suprise Vendor by a length over 2m2. That was the first time in his whole career that he'd finished in the first 2 with soft in the description, as all his best efforts previously had come on good ground or better, so you have to be encouraged with that first outing for his new yard. He's up against Suprise Vendor who's favourite again today, but he is 2 pounds better off with him, and the ground is on the fast side of good today, so it's come in his favour. This one is also over 2m5 a trip he's proven himself over hurdles at. So you have to fancy he can reverse form with Suprise Vendor. The Irish raider Point The Toes has put in some decent form over hurdles recently, but his form from last season on the flat doesn't look great so he's worth opposing. Chevalgris looks well handicapped with the claimer on board, however he prefers softer ground, so I wouldn't want to side with him today. So I really think this is a great chance for Tuscan Gold to break his long losing run:biggrin:
 
Morning, marchers. Morning, saluters. You can tell spring has sprung when you get an evening meeting at God’s own racecourse, Newton Abbot.

Can’t recommend anything down in Devon but my old fave, Tataniano, runs in the ‘lucky last’ at Kempers Park (5.00) and he’ll do for me. If I have any loot left after thrusting my hand in the ‘Help For Heroes’ donation tin then I might just stick it on the old boy.

Both Kiwi Bay and Dubai Dynamo caught my eye in Pontefracts 2.45 today but despite being feasibly treated on best form, at 10 years of age perhaps they need a touch more respite from the handicapper.

However, I think maiden HATSAWAY 16/1 can make its presence felt now dropped to a mark of 80. This is a horse who does have stamina in the pedigree but there has been enough promise to suggest that a mile is okay if given the right ride or right circumstances (fast pace). He is drawn to get a prominent sit in gate 4 and I think given a nice lead from front-running Kiwi Bay, may be able to land the odds at an outside price.

Has form ties with smart types like WONDERSTRUCK and also decent handicappers who have gone on to be rated mid 80s upwards, so the mark is beginning to look feasible.

Been running on the AW without much luck then 2nd lto off a reduced mark, and is interesting back on turf racing off the same Mark. I can see this going close
 
Sprinter Sacre entered at Sandown Park on Saturday. If he runs absolutely zero percent attention will be on THAT man...classic!

Good luck to you, Stick, me old love. I’d place Squire just behind the ‘Black Aeroplane’ personally. But certainly miles ahead of THAT man.
 
5.45 Cork Aggression 11/4 is a horse I'm looking forward to a lot this year. He has been picked up by Qatar Racing and Andrea Atzeni goes over to Cork to ride this colt for Michael O'Callaghan. A mark of 90 is probably a bit high judged on the form of his win at Dundalk but I was very, very taken by the visual impression he created and I think he's a horse destined for big things this year.
