GETAWAY CORY 30/1 Ffos Las 4:40
I thought this one had been let in lightly when making his handicap debut but he ran no sort of race that day. Tom Scudamore takes over tomorrow and I am hoping that the run in the amateur race was just a blip. He is down 3lbs for that poor effort so I hope my initial feeling about him was correct. At the price you dont need to risk a whole lot for decent reward.

Carlise 2.45 Challet

Has won last year on third run after a break, acts on soft and was supported in the market last time out when a close 3rd. The Michael Dods yard has had several placed runners last 14 days. Paul Mulrennan always a good booking at northern tracks. 14/1 looks generous for each way purposes.

This horse caught my eye on his qualifying run for a handicap mark, travelling strongly for the majority of the race before classier horses dominated the finish. He wasn't given a hard time when his chance had gone and I thought he was much better than the bare result. The race will hopefully work out well, and the form has already got a solid look with the 6th winning next time out and the 7th running well in handicaps off a mark of 78.

His penultimate run has worked out nicely enough in context of this mark, splitting a horse now rated in the 90s and one rated in the 80s.

I like Sir Percy's over this trip and with cut in the ground, and that along with the above makes him a bet tonight. I've backed him each way as you can get 4 places 1/5 odds.

Suesa did some of us a favour over in France last time. She was impressive in landing the Group 3 Prix Sigy by more than three lengths that day and the 3rd horse, Ideal Beauty, has since landed a Group 3. Beaten more than four lengths by Suesa, it was a nice boost for the form.

Sadly, the cat is out of the bag with Suesa now and she is odds-on today, Her big target is the Commonwealth Cup at Royal Ascot and that represents a decent betting proposition at 20/1 compared to her odds today of 4/7.

I would rather bet 20/1 for an interest than lump on at skinny odds. The Commonwealth Cup is loaded with possibilities but I feel plenty will fall by the wayside and if Lucky Vega wins the Irish 2000 Guineas he is unlikely to run in the 6F race, while early favourite Supremacy fluffed his lines on his 3YO debut. Favourite Campanelle is yet to be seen so who knows how her form is going to pan out this year. Diligent Harry is one I am considering but he seems ground dependent and won;t be at his best if it is soft according to his trainer.

Suesa lines up at 1.35 Chantilly but for more of a price the bet today was:-

Commonwealth Cup 18th June Suesa 20/1

If she gets beaten today it is game over but that will hurt those on at 4/7 a lot more than me.

Leicester 5.35 Siavash

I always have a close eye on former german runners when they continue their career in the uk. This one has won a class 4 on the AW for David Evans last winter and runs today for the first time in a seller. Will like todays soft ground and should still be good enough to reach a place at least in this weak affair at generous odds.

Couldn't have asked for better than that. Probably went soon enough but she put the race to bed quickly and absolutely pissed up. That looked Group 1 class and I would imagine her odds will be cut for the Commonwealth Cup pronto.

Suesa is now 8/1 second favourite for the Commonwealth Cup. Happy to have a 20/1 ticket, as she is more or less guaranteed to be going and it looks like she has a realistic chance.

Pulled up. Horse is getting worse not better and I wont be touching it again.

The trainer said:-

She loves training, she loves racing, she travels well and has something the others don't have. She is just very good and I get the impression, that with things being so easy for her, she now has a tendency to idle in front. She has earned a trip to Royal Ascot for the [June 18 G1] Commonwealth Cup and I think she will have a great chance. I toyed with the idea of running run her over a mile in the [G1] Poule [d'Essai des Pouliches], but we decided to be conservative and keep her over this trip. Stepping up in trip will come after Ascot, possibly at Deauville in August

Suesa has been confirmed for the Commonwealth Cup and was subsequently cut to 6/1 and shorter in places.

Wesley Ward's Campanelle if still favourite but the gap is closing. No run from last season's Morny winner yet and she in running out of time. It would be a tough ask to win FTO and her odds look cramped, given that Morny runner up Nando Parrado is making a pretty poor impression of his rating so far this season. Surely every chance Suesa goes off favourite for the race. Winning it is another matter entirely.

George Strawbridge's racing manager also reported that Indigo Girl was expected to run in the Prix Diane. That is the plan until John Gosden says anything different. Again, a tough place to start the season off. You can only imagine this was not the original plan coming into the new season.
