Lingfield 1.00 Belafonte

Has shown a bit of promise in a couple of runs on polytrack. Was supported in the market 2 runs ago at Wolverhampton when well beaten. Stable amongst the winners recently. Its a weak race and I've the feeling this horse will run well for each way purposes.

Carlisle 3.05 Rebel Redemption

Was placed in 4 from 7 runs last summer and is on a winning mark today. Not so good when last seen on the AW. Stable amongst the winners recently. Wouldn't be surprised if this one runs well from the front today.

15:50 Lingfield - Givepeaceachance

(Won a hurdle race in good style at Southwell last March, but has a squeak in this event on the Flat at Lingfield's Polytrack. Ran well over 2m at Chelmsford 14-days ago. Oisin Murphy rides for trainer D.J. Coakley. 5/1 still available in two or three places at time of writing.)

Ran very well to hold-on for second place, e/w OK at 9/1!

I like Iolani at Carlisle in the upcoming race. Last runs at Carlisle on the flat were 4th places, is on a good mark and stable in very good form.

Ran-on well to finish 4th without ever looking like winning it. Things get a bit crowded at Lingfield!

In the 4.50 Carlise runs Strangerontheshore who was an eyecatcher there last time:

"Towards rear, going okay but still plenty to do over 2f out, not clear run 2f out, soon ridden and switched right, short of room over 1f out, in the clear and stayed on from over 1f out, not reach leaders, eyecatcher (filly was kicked by another runner at the start; having been checked by the vet the filly was deemed fit to race) (op 7/1 tchd 15/2)"

The Jim Bolger story about the use of stimulants in Irish Racing (and elsewhere) has reared its head again. Is it going to stick this time? Or will it just fade away?

It should be made to stick, get the cheating (insert swear word) banned from the sport. The only thing I would say, it really doesn't matter who, what, why, when or where has done it, and as it would likely to lead to bans and suspensions for certain people, there will only ever always be someone else to come along and find another method of doing the same thing. If there's money to made, you can almost guarantee corruption, can't you. It might solve the problem temporarily as people tighten up their operations , it would have a damaging impact immediately, for a short term, but as regard saving the sport from drug abuse in the long run, we're fighting a battle that is very difficult to win.

I suppose if they begin outing them, make it seem like they are active, carry out more controlled testing with harsher punishment, then it might narrow the margins in favour of the people who try make it an honest living.

I doubt there will be much alacrity from the governing bodies to do so.

The sentiment expressed in the Bolger interview were that this is a doping scandal of 'Lance Armstrong' proportions. There were two parts to the LA story: he was a cheat and the champion but also that the authorities were complicit.
That says two things to me. This involves someone big and the IHRB could be afraid to upset the applecart.
