Maguire Quinn McShane Amazed by all the votes for Ince - all the City fans around me appeared to share my dissatisfaction at his lack of intensity. One thing we've had confirmed today: he's no right winger, and frankly he's not a left winger either. If we want to see the best of him, we need to play him in his best position.
He didn't get involved much, but as I stated in my post, when he did get involved he was the only one threatening to score. Quinn worked incredibly hard and had lots of the ball but did very little with it. Quinn probably deserved it more, he had a good game and was controlling our play, sadly let down by no one else stepping up to make the most of his hard work, but Ince was the only player that got me out my seat all game, about three times.
McShane Maguire Ince Could be in any order. All of them put in a shift. We have a couple of very good players in Maguire and Ince and they will establish themselves in the first team before too long.
1. Maguire 2. McShane 3. Brady Can't agree with those who have suggested this was an over-all good performance. Ince showed glimpses but that was all, we were really no threat at all down the right until Elmo came on. Aluko was invisible and Sagbo not much better, Hernandez although on only briefly looked much better. Huddlestone was pretty dreadful. Davies and the rest of the backline were good but Harper was poor for the first goal. Sure, there were times when we kept the ball exceptionally well but to me it never really looked like we were going to find a way through. The over-all performance and work rate would, I suspect, have been rewarded with proper strikers on the pitch.
^ this ^ - I was also disappointed about the number of tackles out lot bottled out of - maybe on instruction because of our injury list but nonetheless pretty poor - McShane more than proved his point last night, great performance and must give Brucie selection problems - ' do I pick my son or do I pick the better player?' mmmm, difficult one there!
Long term probably not, but at the moment he's our only (best) fit left back, so I can't see him going anywhere in January, at least until Rosie or Robertson are fit. I think that's really harsh, I'm not saying he was Man of the Match or anything, but to single him out seems like you'd made your mind up before the game and nothing that happened was going to change it.
Maguire - Absolute beast, no other comment necessary. Quinn - Here, there and everywhere. One of only a few who put a real shift in, however his lack of creativity showed once again. Ince - Simply because he had our best/only attempts at the Arsenal goal. The one in the first when he ran through 2 defenders and slotted it wide, and the one late on in the second half which went just over. If it fell to him on his left peg it would of probably been 2-1 and we might of stole a replay, who knows? I don't know how anyone can give Figueroa any praise for his performance, he was below average, as with all his performances for us. I hope he leaves this month, I'm sure Dudgeon would of performed better, had he not of been on loan to Barnsley until today. We need to ship Figgy and Sagbo out, preferably to Madagascar in a wooden container.
It's not 'really harsh', I said: Fig has got to go, simply stating he is not up to the job, we don't need him along with Sagbo. We could easily play (from left to right) Davies Maruire/Bruce Chester/Mcshane Elmo Brady is also a better left back and there is a better left back playing in the reserves/out on loan than Figgy I'm not trying to be cruel just stating my opinion which most on here will probably agree with.
The way you'd written your post was as if he'd had a mare yesterday, when actually watching the game he was pretty decent, as he always has been when played at left back. Because Townsend's is an international loan we can't recall him, and Davies at left back would be horrific.
Anyone who thinks we were good is frankly a twerp. You can pass the ball sideways and keep possession in pretty little triangles as much as you want but if you dont have any shots on goal then what's the point? Goals win games, possession wins nothing. It was 100% the right thing to do. I havent seen these comments you refer to but if anyone slates McShane for heading out that dangerous ball then they know absolutely nothing about football.
