In fairness Modric hardly endeared himself to Spurs fans whilst at Spurs AND Real.

Fair points made <ok>, it must be very annoying. We've never really had the same thing from say Alonso or Mascherano.

Just don't get the personal level of insult... He's just a cog in the Real machine at the end of the day. I'm sure he's a nice enough guy if you know him.

What would people call Suarez and Modric if they didn't look slightly disturbing?

Belfast, don't concern yourself with what you think is personal insult, have you never been amongst a bunch of blokes talking about someone they don't like? Its hardly personal, they haven't been copied and sent to him by mail! As has been pointed out to you, no-one here expects every player to love our club, but when you sign a 6yr deal and want out of it a year later, how would you describe it? A rat is a common term for someone who jumps ship, the fact Modric looks like one is just a bonus!

I've got no quarrel with the idea that fans are fickle. I notice it when someone I don't rate plays well. Suddenly I'm a big backer. But the dislike of Modric by Spurs fans is less because he decided to go somewhere else than how he went about it.

I don't think any of us wish VDV anything but the best. He was great for us when he was here, and left quietly, without saying a single thing that Spurs fans found unpleasant.

What sent me over the edge with Modric was when he made an incredible attempt to sieze the moral high ground. He claimed Levy had lied to him. Maybe he did. Maybe he didn't. I don't know. But I do know a man who would not honor his contract trying to claim the moral high ground is about as repulsive as it gets.

That's a good comparison. If VDV ever visits with his team, he will be cheered to the rafters. Modric's reception will be very different!

Modric was very crass in hankering after a move so soon after signing a long term contract, but he jumped too soon in agreeing to join Real Madrid. He'd only had one outstanding season in the PL and even then, he'd not added goals to his game.

Madrid want an instant impact from a new player. There is no time to adjust and settle in. But they also had Alonso, Khedira and Ozil competing for those holding midfielder and playmaker roles, as well as Essien and Kaka in the squad and di Maria, Callejon and Casemiro in the other midfield positions. He hasn't made a splash there because he hasn't been good enough to carve out a regular place for himself. He should have stayed at Spurs and looked to improve again.

Bale is a better player, but he would also face similar challenges with Ronaldo still around. I can't see Bale uprooting his family and moving abroad to a club where he would face these pressures.

He should probably move to a club in the North west of England instead, perhaps?? ;)

Pretty much agree Luke, but always bear in mind things get lost in translation and we have to read all this through a very poor media. I am not going to develop a great dislike of anyone based on that kind of info. Having said that Modric was pretty unprofessional in giving the interviews in the first place.

In the real world I try very hard to be kind, non judgemental and try not to be rude or verbally abusive...but this is not the real world ...it is a football forum where slating a former player who earned more per week than I do in 6 years, who went on strike twice a year after signing a new massive contract as he thought we were wrong to ask him to honour it for longer than 12 months and who has continuously talked through the media about how another of our players should leave us to join him is fair game.
I'd have thought you were right if what I wrote was racist or homophobic or was calling him a *****phile etc. but I called him

a back stabbing, rat faced, ****y, ****ish, **** headed, ungrateful, bastard.

Seems pretty accurate to me...though I do accept that I may be a little biased <laugh>

I wouldn't dream of calling him abusive names if I met him as he hasn't done anything that would even vaguely justify that...I would not join in abusive chanting...though I'd boo the twat...it's pantomime stuff...

You should just bring in Shwan, the resident "expert" on FFP.

<laugh> That guy is a legend. No offence Mano, but easily the best poster on the United board or not 606 full stop.

I don't think you've come across Shwan. Guy can literally tire you into submission. I think they had to ban him on the Arsenal board.

That's Peskie's normal way of dealing with anybody who can beat him in an argument.
