Im not entirely convinced TBH. Just makes me wonder where Ben Arfa, Marveaux, Best, Sammy etc. will fit in if we play a 4-4-2 with him and Ba (Im aware of the ACON). I honestly dont think we'll get him or really want him, dont forget Sholas just signed a new deal too.

Ameobi could be away with Nigeria....... Ba and Tiote are off and Maiga will also be in the African cup. Still need another striker in IMO. Even if its just a short term loan option to tide us over. We were linked with Macheda before the window shut. Someone like that to give us more options in January would be ideal or we could end up short on strike options with Best, Lovenkrands and Ranger being all thats left.

I would like to see us get a CB in, i know we are linked with this 18 year old Coventry kid but i am a bit wary if Colo or Taylor get crocked and Williamson is out we only have Perch as an option. Its stopping us getting rid of him having no other centre back in the squad as Derby were knocking on the door.

Another Striker on loan as well as Maiga in January and another CB please.

    This.

I have been following football for the past 40 years, but had never heard of Ben Arfa, Tiote, Cabaye, Santon or Marveaux eighteen months ago.

If Carr thinks he is good enough for the Toon that's good enough for me. Even he is not as good as we hope, he will still be better than some of Agent Bruce expensive signings, or Boro's Afonso Alves (the only Brazilian who can't play football)

Get him in, with Pieters also at left back, and I'll be a very happy bunny indeed.

Unlike our other signings I've seen jack of this lad bar youtube. His record is decent and Carr likes him enough to keep going back so that'll do. On ACON I don't think any of our transfer policies should be based on this happening in Jan/Feb. I think we need to look past the end of our nose and keep looking to the future. Sure the problem will reoccur in a few years time, but hopefully we'll have shifted Ameobi/Lover on by then and we can sign a European replacement. Centre forward and centre back are the main priorities. Must admit I'm against signing Ridgewell. Don't think he'd want to play 2nd fiddle at this stage of his career, I don't think he is that good, and I'd also we went back along the lines of Situ, in that I'd like a young centre back with potential.

Come the summer a top class left back and some cover for Tiote would be nice. Maybe a right midfielder although we have a number of young players who can cover. Depends if Obertan progresses I suppose.

Id prefer loan to buy ala Ben Arfa. £8mil is a lot of dosh for a player that could potentially 'rock the boat'

Very happy with this. People's negative judgements all seem to be based on about 5 goals on youtube and his goalscoring record over his whole career. He's been in good form for over a year now which implies he has improved as a player and I trust Pardew and Carr's judgement <ok>

In Carr we Trust!! I think of it as a replacement/competition for Best rather than Ba. Best does well at causing problems with the defence, despite his goals this season i still dont see him getting a big enough tally by the end of the season.
Thought competition makes for better playing so Maiga coming in doesnt necessarily mean he will be in our first team straight away. He has 52,000 fans to win over first.

Is he a pacy kind of striker that plays off the shoulder of the last defender?

Because that is what we need. We have enough target men and although Lovenkrands plays that way he is past it.

Somebody please answer, otherwise I'll have to judge his style of play from FIFA/Football Manager/YouTube <laugh>

Hard to tell really, people were saying he's quite a big guy but when I watched the videos his physique reminds me more of Sammy.

Well he certainly won't be a panic buy as we'll have had months to look at him (unlike someone like Ruiz). So I'm pretty confident Carr will have seen more than enough to convince him, and he's better than Erdinc.

I admit that I have never followed the French Ligue 1 very much. What I have seen never impressed me that much, and the shirts they wear tend to bring on a migraine :emoticon-0103-cool:
