Ok, in light of a few WUMs popping up on our board recently, I think the moderator subject is due a review.

Well noted Bidley. It's still better that what was on the original BBC 606 and I have not had grounds to believe that we need one (yet). It's lucky that we don't have to put up with some of the rubbish on other boards, including those with Mods.
A moderator does have the power to stop WUMs, ban people from the Fulham site or remove the posts of others, unfortunately. I inquired about this around the time of the first game against QPR, when a bunch of their idiots came to our board and tried to get something going.
A moderator can police OUR members, but can't really do much about outsiders.
So I'm of the opinion that we're OK for now. Simply ignoring WUMs, much the way I ignored my pesky little sister growing up, is probably the best method for keeping them away. They want a reaction... If we don't give them one, they'll go elsewhere.

Bidley ... that was the first thing I asked - could I ban people. You can't remove their posts, either.
Rubbish. Well in that case, we're probably fine as we are then. I was just getting sick of idiots like that Comas bloke posting crap all over our lovely board.
Incidentally, have you seen any of this guy's other posts? That's all he does, abuse people. How is he not banned from this forum?!

The only other thing I'd say to the main Moderators is to put an icon like a red card
in the Achievements column just to show others this person is a WUM and has a history
of posting cr*p and has been reported by other forums.

The trouble with that is that it would be open to abuse. I think that's why the whole rep thing was abandoned - if, say, a well meaning and reasonable Liverpool fan (I think there are one or two of them) posted on the Man Utd board, he could get red-carded by unreasonable Utd fans (again, let's just assume that some of them exist) and there would be no way of showing that he wasn't a WUM. I agree with those who say let's just ignore annoying WUMs. I'm reluctant to use the actual 'ignore' function of the website, but if we get repeat offenders, we could just all put them on our ignore list and then we wouldn't even see their posts.
The only thing that having a Mod would give us is someone to approach other mods about WUMs, but there's no reason that one of us couldn't do that anyway, just by sending a personal message. I'm quite proud of the fact that we're one of most active boards (possibly the most active) that doesn't have a mod. I don't think we need one, and that fact is a testimony to the intelligent and good-natured banter that we have here. Well done us!
Hear hear. If we come across WUMS then either report them or just tell them to leave, when a WUM posts there's more than enough of us to tell them where they can go!
It's yet another area where we miss Rocky. He had a wonderful knack of slapping down WUMs by posting to the regulars rather than directly engaging the WUM. I don't suppose anyone has heard anything about how Rocky's doing?
You guys are pretty lucky to have the board run 'normally' without a moderator in place, wish ours could be the same but with a fierce rivalry with the Suffolk contingent it is not possible.
You have two very close rivals in Chelsea and QPR, how come you don't normally get grief from these guys unless a match between the two of you is on the horizon? Do they not consider Fulham to be rivals?

If a mod can't ban or remove posts, I don't see what difference it would make - if WUMs turn up then we're powerless to do anything apart from ignore them or ask them nicely to go away, mod or no.
I think a lot of it has to do with the fact that none of our members go on their boards and give them abuse. We get the odd idiot who comes on here after we beat them and they have a little jab. We don't have many (if any) mouth-breathers like a lot of the boards do so we don't give them a good time, so they lose interest. With the QPR/Chelsea thing, I don't think Chelsea think of us as a close rival - in fact, all the Chelsea fans we get on here are usually quite pleasant. The rivalry is there, but it's pretty friendly. We've had a lot more QPR fans on here since they came up. Well, we did have, but they've been quite quiet since the 6-nil hammering we gave them.
A mod can close threads posted on that board, the problem comes in where, say for example I created a thread on the Norwich board and added Fulham to that thread. The Fulham mod could only request the removal via the Norwich mod(s).
So if I came on to your board only, and posted something, your mod (if he/she existed) could close it. Beyond that there is a site super mod who can close any thread, remove them and hand out bans if warranted but you would might need a moderator to action this with the super mod.
The cross board moderation has been an issue since cross board threads were created. One day, hopefully moderators will be able to close from either side if required.
Serve time first by being a normal mod (if there is such an animal) and prove your worth
I am sure Syd (the super mod) will stand down at some point, he was very close to doing so after the Gary Speed suicide and several bad taste threads that appeared on general chat.To be honest I do not envy the role he has, I am sure he gets precious little time to himself looking after every board, thread and user.
Anyhoo, good luck at Blackburn but I fear perhaps with your away record a point is the best you will take. Still, that will be good enough to keep them well away from us
Ah ok, so moderators do have some use! We seem to be doing ok just using the 'report' function.
