The moderators have my sympathy.
They are only complying with the wishes of their members. From reading the boards last night I do not think that they themselves agree 100% with this course of action, but they have received complaints from their fellow mackems so they must try something.
These guys don't get paid for this hassle, they do it to help the forum, and cannot always please everybody.
The problem is that no-one wants the tight moderation of 606, however, this tight moderation allowed the banter to continue without idiots just telling each other to "**** off". We would all like relaxed moderation but I have found that this allows the more tribal and agressive posters to create a "them and us" atmosphere where you cannot have a light-hearted piss take out of your nearest rivals.
I write articles on here taking the piss out of, and laughing at the mackems. There is no malice intended and I do not wish to upset anyone. I can also appreciate when a Mackem writes a piss take out of us. But I have found it impossible to do this on their board. There are several decent guys over their (including all their mods), but as soon as a Newcastle fan dares to criticise their team or even "poke fun" at them, so many members spit their dummies out and instead of replying with a sharp or witty retort, they just hurl mindless abuse. Because of this, I actually enjoyed 606 more. AT LEAST THERE WAS BANTER!
Sorry for rambling a bit, cos all I really wanted to say was that we should cut Syd, Sid and the other mods a bit of slack because they have been placed in a difficult position and whatever they do or don't do, they will piss someone off.
