Sorry Swords, but this is dumb.

It's very simple: keep the comments relevant to the topic (disagree all you like, use whatever language you feel best suits / supports your viewpoint, whatever) but keep it focused on the issue, not the person you are talking to.

As soon as you stop saying "your opinion about Luke Bloody Young is crap and here's why" and start saying "You are crap and here's why" then you've overstepped the mark. That's when the mods should step in. And rightly so.

We should all be mature enough to 'self-moderate' - by which I mean either don't cross the line from debate to personal abuse, or choose to step away before the line gets crossed. I know we've all failed at some point in the past (myself included) but that doesn't mean it's not true. And it's not 'stifling debate', it's encouraging debate where people CAN express their opinions without the fear of being personally attacked simply for expressing a contrary viewpoint. There are loads of threads I've read with interest but not posted on, simply because I knew I would draw personal comment from certain board members. See? Stifled debate.

If we do that, there's no need to draw up a published 'hit list' of those members who may have complained to the mods. All that does if provide those people who have been warned over their behaviour with a few names to go after for retribution, and will never do anything but make the situation worse.

That's dumb. Not 'you're dumb' - which would be personal - but 'that's dumb' - and above is why.

Mods - you're doing a fine job, we all just need to take responsibility for making that job easier.

    This from a top poster.

Too many good threads are wrecked by personal vendettas. As said many times above, it is a few that spoil it for the many.

Keep up the good work Roller and 9's

Willy, if you are referring to me 'stifling' you, don't worry, I said some time ago that I would not comment on your posts and I haven't since and don't intend to in future. I'm 'self-modding', as disgusting and reprehensible as that sounds.....

****ing massive sense of deja vu about this thread.

Mods, I agree entirely with Peru's short post. I think you are the best pair of Mods we have had since I joined up anyway - I only see you making the occasional wise and often humourous comment where you have seen posters getting too personal or derogatory. Excellent as is, in my opinion - I hope on review you don't find a need to change this approach.

The only small matter for me is it seemed (I maybe wrong) that a Leciester poster with lot of names, Andy King was a part of it I think, had been banned from our Board. I didn't quite understand that as from what I saw his posts were quite fair. Perhaps I missed some that were not so fair, but basically I think it is a positive to have football dialogue (not abuse) with supporters from other teams, particularly the ones we are competing with actively like Leicester.

Looking at the overall picture it seems that our Mods have the huge majority of support from contributors.

I would just like to add my thanks too for, what sometimes, must feel like a totally thankless and onerous task. You do a great job and the fact you feel it necessary to approach the subject again is an indicator of how things have started to get a little out of hand.

Some guys can't seem to help themselves and have to get personal. The excuses of 'I don't have to stand there and take it' are somewhat neanderthal; and the ensuing bitching just spoils the forum threads which are there for QPR discussion not for personal hurling of insults. Just as in the same way, people can't seem to simply ignore the Leicester poster, who is nothing other than a WUM, and just throw out insults - reply to his constructive points and ignore his others.
But hey... as far as 'modding' goes, you're doing great and I trust you to do the right thing as you have always done carry on the good job lads.

I didn't mention any names, deliberately. Do you think that some of our previous exchanges on the board have led you to NEED to self moderate?

This is why Swords' suggestion that the names of complainers be published is dumb.

Not really, our exchanges had reached the point of no return, no more entertainment to be had, and it was upsetting you which, believe it or not, is never my intention. You are right in that responses to what is posted should be within bounds, responses to a posters name are just daft and usually incendiary. And with that I will return to my 'no comment' position.....

Broadly in agreement with much of the comments here - 2 things really piss me off. First, any reasonable comment should be treated with respect - if you don't agree feel free to say so, and say why, but on a strictly no personal comments basis - I don't care how stupid you may think the comment, if it is not personal to you, don't make it personal back. Sometimes the level of childishness on here amazes and depresses me - it's not 'banter' or harmless winding up - it's boring, repetitive and we've all heard it before.

Secondly the cross forum wumming is getting deeply irritating - I'm absolutely bored ****less with some of the tedious halfwits that are constantly coming onto our board. If people just ignored them instead of dropping down to their level this place would be a much more interesting read - the number of recent threads that have been totally hijacked by petty tit-for-tat insults seems to be constantly on the rise. Can we just agree to ignore them? Feeding the trolls just encourages them, and it's not like you can have a reasoned debate. That's not to say that we shouldn't encourage intelligent discourse with other forum members, just not the attention seeking keyboard warriors.

    My take:

    1. Considering the football on offer I'm surprised at the civility sometimes - there is definitely a sense of impending doom amongst some of us that the league position on this occaision does lie.
    2. The banality that some of the non QPR fans bring to this board is simply well banal - as soon as the Leicester supporter starts commenting it's a waste of time, he is a supreme Wummer who knows just to stay within the limits - Mods, your job is to ensure that the board remains within legal boundaries and that there is a fair amount of traffic, this guy is a headache for you.
    3. Is the bickering and targeting that bad or any worse than previously? - Don't think so and those that let it get to them to start quoting libel laws need to take a deep breath and regain their perspective.
    4. Roller & Nuts - We don't live in a democracy, you took the job so it's your rules - Remember it is traffic and within the law that counts.
    5. The Young man currently residing in North East Italy being brought up at every opportunity surely doesn't help!!

By the way - these threads dont help either. IMO.

Quite simple, 1st case = warning, 2nd case is a weeks ban, third case is a moths ban and the 4th case is a permanent ban.

I think that is being lenient. Theres no point repeately banning someone for a week as they just come back and do it again.

Agree, but then also, what do you do with those who are banned, and then a few days later a mystery new poster appears...can the mods check IP addresses to confirm it is the same person. If not, banning is only a temporary solution.

I agree with Flyer, Dave, we have to make some attempt at limiting this behaviour.

New members require mod approval before posting (I think?), would someone be that vindictive to setup new member names over and over, just to be banned again ??

Didn't know mods approved new members...that should help with that then.

So what the forum really needs is a reference akin to 'the Scottish Play' when referring to Adel Taarabt.

I think Fulham fans would agree that it brought them a bucket load of bad luck when they mentioned his name; though to take the thespian reference to its ultimate conclusion, I'm not sure that they would wish him to 'break a leg'....

To be honest who would be a Mod if they had to start checking various posts from new members? The way the BBC ran their 606 site was a total pain in the arse to the point that by time a post had been approved you'd gone elsewhere and some innocuous posts were banned under their ludicrous 'House Rules'.

There's nothing wrong with the modding on this site, it's the one or two members who can't resist pushing it until their 'prey' actually 'bites, and we end up with the silly slanging matches. As for the wums from other boards leave it to our Mods to give them enough rope to hang themselves...

ban the IPS, the other thing is not to allow public email addresses. I remember not being allowed (surely they couldn't know me?) and had to ask a mod to be approved.

so no gmail, yahoo addresses, only ISP emails because the are a limited number.

also look at the Leicester idiots, they've been invisible all season and suddenly appear when they think they are already up. we all know what will happen and they do a Bristol city, everyone will invade their boards so the best thing to do is treat other teams trolls (and I include swords in that) even harder.
