Then quote their post and say "That's what I thought... Becasue......." as the reasons behind 2 similar opinions are often different. Post Post Post!!
IF they have you they are required to send out the notice so that you can be expected to receive it within 14 days. In practice this means that they are likely to send it out after about ten days but use first class post where the PO Service Standard says next day delivery. However it's been known for them to make a mistake and use second class post where the PO service standard is 'inside five days'. Just in case it's worth checking the envelope. I'm going back a few years to a case covered in The Echo for this info.
I have read up on this and it states you must here within 14 working days of the alleged offence. The day the offence occurd is counted as day 0. So reading into that if it happened three weeks tomorrow I should be in the clear as 14 days are up and I haven't received a letter. Hopefully thats right. In case anybody is interested. I realise I have waffled on a bit. Thanks.
I've went thru the variable speed camera's at 40mph twice at Silverlink and not getting a tkt. They reckon they are turned on. I reckon they are talking b*llocks.
I was well distracted last Saturday and went through a camera on the A14 that I've known about for years. Just hope I don't hear anything by a week Saturday. After that I won't be concerned.
There are mobile speed cameras being operated by traffic enforcement officers on motor cycles down here in Dorset & Somerset. They are very easy to hide between parked vehicles or on the grass verges so beware of you're down this way on your jollies.
Two reasons perhaps? Safety AND Revenue And not all motoring and Safety Organisations are convinced that Speed Camera's improve safety. Of course statistics can prove just about anything.
I think them particular ones wait until they have took 3 of the same car and then you get 20 points and a £10,000 fine
Like RAW said the guidelines are there for a reason and 99% of the time I follow the speed limits. Once I was going to fast and just thought f*ck it I'm just going for it now. My mates normally call me drivin Miss Daisy.
I do my damnedest to keep inside the speed limits because I resent paying the £80 fine and I don't want to give insurance Companies any excuse to whack up my premiums. But with the best will in the world I don't get it right ALL the time. I believe that a number of Forces no longer use their Fixed Speed Camera's on the basis of cost. Mobile, targeted, camera's are proving more cost effective. For example, in 2009 Swindon became the first town in the UK to scrap speed cameras after it was decided they were a 'blatant tax on the motorist' which did nothing to improve safety. Figures revealed there was no increase in road accidents following the decision and no fatalities in the six months after the cameras were switched off. However it matter's no weather the camera's are a safety measure or a revenue raising measure. Keep inside the limits and they won't bother you. To my mind, speed fines are a voluntary TAX.
Motorway speed limits are too low though. I’m all for 20/30 zones and respect them, but I absolutely speed on motorways, no denying. 70mph is wholly ridiculous given the braking and safety features of modern cars, and the visibility you have. They could even have variable limits related to weather, if ubderstand that, but there’s no need at all for a 70mph limit on a 3-plus lane motorway.
I always keep to the speed limits. However it sometimes becomes difficult on the motorway when sometimes you need to overtake to make the driving more practical. These high powered cars perform better and safer at a higher speed Never the less the speed limits are the for a reason and have to be adheared too
I might be wrong and this may be from when I lived in Spain but isn’t it legal to go over the speed limit to overtake? Like I say may have been in Spain.
Watch Gateshead area my brother was done and he is a careful driver and never drinks, they are sticking 20 mph limits all over the place as well !
Don’t know about that in England But sometimes it’s more safe to go over the limit to avoid situations
