Rovers part company with the manager

Bristol Rovers have today relieved manager Mark McGhee of his duties.

The final decision came following Rovers 4-1 defeat at York City this afternoon.

Chairman Nick Higgs said: “We had hoped that the appointment of Mark McGhee would give the club some stability and long term progress, but unfortunately that has not been the case.

“We have decided that we can no longer continue with the current situation and had to make the difficult decision to part company with Mark. We decided we had to act now before it was too late.”

Mark McGhee joined Bristol Rovers in January of this year, and despite rallying Rovers to climb up the table following the departure of Paul Buckle, the manager has been unable to build on that progress, and Rovers currently find themselves in the relegation zone after struggling to assert themselves on the league.

The club will not be making any further statements until Monday when it is hoped there will be a press call to explain the next steps to take the club forward.

imagine the journey home in the team coach. MM sat on there already sacked and the players quiet as a mouse who got him sacked. or will there be arguements on the team coach??

I was told by someone on thursday (I won't say who) that there was an emergency board meeting that evening so thats what it was about. Hmm maybe the players lost deliberately to get him out.

just heard on radio bristol that the coach left without MM who was in his own car and had kenneth with him. what was MM doing travelling by car anyway to york and not on the team coach with the players discussing tactics and encouraging the players and motivating them. team captain in MM's car as well and not on the team coach. shocking. explains the performance and wonder if this been going on every away game which explained a lot! glad he has gone.

Mentioned on your managers interview post at 6.02 CJ.

Shame we had high hopes given his pedigree, more worried about the abilities of the selection board for the next one.

The players have to take a big percentage of the reason for his demise and our current league predicament.

What a mess,Higgs hand forced given run of results.

Good call not sure who is currently avaliable assume North will take temp post.

Hopefully this was a popular decision with the players and they will show more spirit now and start to pick up some points.

Inevitable....and I think a few matches too late. He was given more than enough backing.
Our failure is nothing to do with injuries etc., but all to do with mainly poor signings,
poor selection and poor tactics.
Give the job to Stewart and Walsh (U18s won again, away v Coventry) in the short term.
I'm afraid North needs to go too.

people on the OS forum moaning how MM got sacked. he was sacked by a phone call. some are saying its bad and should have waited until monday and done it in person. bet these same people would have moaned and moaned all wekkend if he wasnt sacked today. twats.
