Council meets with clubs to progress MKM Stadium redevelopment THURSDAY, 22 FEBRUARY 2024 CATEGORIES: NEWS, PLANNING, REGENERATION TAGS: CLLR MIKE ROSS, HULL CITY, HULL FC, MKM STADIUM, TAN KESLER Hull City Council leader, Cllr Mike Ross, this week met with SuperStadium Management Company (SMC), Hull City executive vice-chair Tan Kesler and Hull FC chairman Adam Pearson to progress discussions on the redevelopment of the MKM Stadium. Cllr Ross, along with council officers, met with Mr Kesler and Mr Pearson to hear more about the plans for the stadium. Cllr Ross said: “It was good to meet with SMC and see the progress it has made on the proposals and discuss any support needed from the council. “There would be wider benefits for the community and the professional clubs and it was great to be able to hear about those.” Provisional proposals, which would see Hull City’s Academy relocated to the MKM Stadium, improved facilities for the Tigers Trust, along with a raft of improved community facilities in West Park, have been shared with the council’s planning committee as part of the pre-application process. Hull City, Tigers Trust, SMC and Hull FC will now engage with the local community and other stakeholders in advance of submitting a detailed planning application later this year. Mr Kesler said: “I’d like to thank Cllr Ross and his colleagues for their interest and support for our vision for the future of the MKM Stadium and surrounding area. “Additionally, I’d like to thank Adam and also our colleagues at the Tigers Trust for their efforts and enthusiasm for a project that will bring benefits to so many people. “We look forward to sharing our plans with the people of Hull in due course.”
It is To be fair I hadn’t noticed the date at the top at first, so as you I was reading thinking there’d been another meeting
Nottingham Forest have 33 years left on their council leased stadium, and are in talks to extend it. Apparently the council wants to increase the rent from £250,0000 per year to £1m a year, best of luck with that. The views expressed in my posts are not necessarily mine.
Again there's no new development in this news, but City seem keen to keep this story going. Seems like an attempt to put some sort of pressure on the council. I wonder whether there are certain things that they want the council to agree to but haven't been successful in convincing them of so far.
They’re not going to bankrupt us. It’s a long term project. They have transfer targets for summer. May be able to buy some of our loan players. If they can negotiate a longer lease they’ll tart the stadium & surrounding area up.
I have no accounting knowledge at all but wondered if there was some kind of clever way of spreading the cost of any improvements against the length of the lease. Probably not but thought someone might know.
As the SMC is losing money hand over fist I don't see how there could be a benefit that way. I think they're probably banking on Premier League money at some point and the golden question is 'will they cover the shortfall if it doesn't come?'
That's the golden question and the silver question is will they get carried away and spunk all the Premier League money if it happens or will we remain solvent and prudently spend on these other improvements plans?
The link was of no use to me, I don't have a TV/radio licence. The views expressed in my posts are not necessarily mine.
What I got from it was positive... but I think they expect the council to get their hand in their pockets too... 'dilapidated' was one word used regarding the 22/23 year old stadium.. Did I hear right that FC tenancy rights end this year..?
